many years ago I was training to be a physical ed teacher, I studied a lot of sports, coaching awards, progressions and steps etc. My instructor was watching me trying to teach a bunch of young folk basketball, in a nutshell they were not getting it. I was getting frustrated, I was young:) He took me to one side and said 'it is your fault, you need to break the skill further so they can make smaller manageable steps' that chat has been with me all my life. Break it down, progression, also 'fail to plan, plan to fail' nice Video Paul, keep it going so impressed with your content. My biggest challenge is time, I could train and move a lot but I need to make the tea:)

I want a handstand pushup. I'm starting off with horrible wrist flexibility and no handstand experience, so I have a lot of work to do. This video opened my mind about what my training is going to look like. I did my first pike pushups and my wrists hurt a lot. I have a lot of progress to make. Thanks for this video, it really opened my mind up.

Thank you for the education Paul! I definitely have made all these mistakes, especially consistency and frequently changing workouts. Keep up the great work and I will do the same for learning the Handstand! :D

Thanks Coach, very helpful. I am fine tuning my workouts now into a 6 week block with week 6 being total rest. I've been forgetting to take the rest week and was probably overtraining muscle up, so i'll take some time out of that and put it into another skill.

You’re a great instructor, Paul. I’ve probably made every mistake you mentioned. I know I need to work on the wall drills more to develop my range of motion. One thing that helped me was following the advice to limit the number of skills I was working on and focusing on just a few. I made the commitment to do some type of handstand training daily and I have only missed a few days in the last 3-4 months. My handstand has improved and I can even hit a crow to handstand now, even if my form isn’t stellar. Until a person dedicates themselves to training handstands they typically won’t realize how much work it takes to develop the skill. Paul is super advanced and knows what he is doing.

Again an excellent video Paul! These are some superb pieces of advice, even for those who have been training for a while already. Over the course of years you'll need to make adaptations every once in a while, and inefficiency can sneak in gradually if you move on to different progressions but at the same time chip away at TUT for example. So always keep these things in mind when updating your training program, and re-evaluate if you're still checking those boxes every couple of months. Also: I'd recommend to only change one exercise at a time in a given workout, for a given cycle. For instance you could try swap tuck front lever holds for slow eccentric pull to inverted hangs, but leave the rest of your pulling workout as is for at least a full 6-8 week cycle. This gives you better data to work with in evaluating what works well. Lastly: especially for beginners it may be a good idea to schedule some "workout" every day, but limit those to 10-20 minutes for 4 days a week. Do not burn up all your matches during these sessions, rather use them to explore the movements that you are learning. This isn't much of a sacrifice but it can help a lot in building the habit: you'll need to commit to showing up every single day, so your brain picks up the habit of training more efficiently. Added bonus is the invaluable worth of play to both learning and having fun.

Excellent Paul, really appreciate the analysis, I believe my must difficult movement at the moment is the handstand bailout 😔 I know I can do it, I will definitely get it, but I just need to get confident and stop thinking I will fall flat on my back and get hurt ☺ thanks again!!

Regarding Point 5 what helped me a lot to stay consistent was to commit to doing something every single day. This way I could overcome all the distractions from the daily life that get in the way of my training. Of course there will be days where I miss a training and that's totally fine but just trying to do something every single day (It can be something small like stretching) helps me to keep the habit alive. It's a simple rule easier to remember than complicated schedules. Of course u have to listen to your body to not hurt yourself! But if you have good physique to start with and mix up your training sessions, I think it's okay. Especially when you try to learn things like handstands or in my case breakdance moves where repetition really counts, I think it can be beneficial to go with the "every single day" mindset :)

I believe 1 and 3 are too much related. I believe that physical capacities is one of the most important reasons, for example not enough flexibility or even strength for some skill like HS press or planche. Sometimes I feel that this is what I need to unlock a new skill
