My AC Breaker trips instantly when setting to cool. The outdoor unit is a Carrier 2020 model that was installed new last year. Anything ese I can try before having to call a tech? short on cash. 1. I tested the 3 compressor pins and they all show OL. 2. I disconnected the compressor to see if breaker would trip without it and breaker does not trip, Fan Spins also.(This makes me think there is not an issue with Breaker nor contactor and maybe it is an issue with the compressor or wiring.) 3. Outdoor unit is very clean, and I dont see any visual wiring issues.

Why do the inside coil have to be replaced unless its not compatible and totally out dated or maybe cant get just the coil if its leaking refrigerant and as far as it leaking water im sure the plumbing can be checked and if everything is fine jus blow out the drain with nitrous or some type of air with a little pressure and check if it is in need of a cap or should it be without it and see if it runs into some type of stack if clogged call a plumber. As for the compressor to me it is clearly grounded from what i see unless something is truly wrong with the breaker and or remove the breaker it self to see the condition behind it other than that lol damn thats a lot of money replacing both units ! ! ! !

You buy a new oitdoor condenser R410A is all they make anymore which runs double the pressure of R22 refrigerant they are very proun to splitting the Evaporator coil. If you replace the compressor R22 then the cost of the gas a clean out kit or new line set you are at the same price. Then a month later the condenser coil splits tgen you are the blame.

The cost of a replacement compressor would be almost as much as a new condensing unit. Also, the evaporator case is corroded and leaking. It just isn't worth it. I can understand wanting to save the customer some money, but you don't want to get carried away with that or you will get into trouble.

Steve I have a question: My breaker to the ac keeps tripping, so I checked it and there was a mouse laying across the capacitor, so I replaced it ( fried mouse ) and the breaker still trips so what could be the problem. Is it possible that when the mouse shorted out the capacitor, it could have shorted out the compressor. Is the common and the herm terminals on different phases so when the mouse laid across them it caused a direct short between two phases.? . I haven't ohm ed out the compressor yet should I do that, or if it was a thermal protector inside the unit wouldn't it have reset by now, or would a direct short by the mouse cause it to not open? Help it's hot here in Texas.

Mine is from 1996 same with the furnace which is a Janitrol/Goodman GMP075-3 the A/C is the same model as that one CK25-1B my system is 20 years old roughly and works great just needs little things here and there most recent thing on the furnace was the blower fan changed it myself. Have a great one Jason C. - From Michigan and BTW the heat exchanger on the furnace was replaced 8 years ago because it was just starting to pop apart because of those crappy rivets that goodman used.

Brad Hvac thats what they said when they first started using poe oil but thats not accurate now. we were having a problem with swapping to 407c so we had a refrigerant rep come to our company to explain how we should be doing the swaps. he said their having problems with oil return with poe oil so we need to add 10% mineral oil to system to get the oil to return. just another thing these companies rushed to market thats screwing us now. we loose a lot of compressors now
