I don't think this is really meant for real world application. For ArmA to use a grid reference for the initial adjustment shot is the absolute safest way for indirect fire to not hit your own guys tbh. I'd always work with a grid instead of polar if I can. There are even artillery calculators for ArmA3 to type it in for the mortar crew. Most people playing are neither trained mortar crews nor trained FOs mind you.
