When he was add 50 he was on point, when moved 200 left why did he drop 200? that would put most of the Fire for effect shots short? is it because of the direction of the road relative to the guns?

I don't think this is really meant for real world application. For ArmA to use a grid reference for the initial adjustment shot is the absolute safest way for indirect fire to not hit your own guys tbh. I'd always work with a grid instead of polar if I can. There are even artillery calculators for ArmA3 to type it in for the mortar crew. Most people playing are neither trained mortar crews nor trained FOs mind you.
