Well, all of these lackluster books have been saving me a lot of money. Hope Chaosium returns to their once-magnifcent ways.

Aurora Blue definitely looks cool. May have to pick this one up. I do wonder if Chaosium is ever putting out Mansions of Madness Volume 2.

I've been thinking the same about the art of CoC for a long time, it's an horror game, make some scary and gory artwork for a change instead of 10 different versions of an investigator soiling themselves while seeing tentacles. There is also the matter of the themes dealt in the scenarios, I've noticed a trend with Chaosium where their material got increasingly pg 13, not enough sleaze and grittiness around tbh, games like Kult and Delta Green have definitely proved that there is a market for that too so why not make something more adult and disturbing? The Berlin supplement was nice for example.

Agreed. Some of the bigger RPG companies seem afraid to do anything that might cause the slightest controversy or upset anyone. For lack of a better term, they need to 'grow some balls' & do the game genre justice. I am a very left-wing person, but the 'woke' agenda in the US is going beyond human rights & into censorship of fiction. We absolutely don't want to be nasty to real people, but in games or movies we can tell stories about those things. Harlem Unbound does also tackle difficult subjects, so thats worth a mention & praise for having 'balls.'

@@ex-voto I'm an European socialist and the American woke thing always perplexed me, why doing that sort of stuff into a niche hobby where nobody gets hurt instead of doing it in real life? Internet activism is utter cancer. Harlem Unbound is also nice, it's unlikely it will ever be translated because it's embedded in American culture but I could easily something made during ww2 and dealing with matters like the Holocaust and war crimes.

Stygian Fox does great Call of Cthulhu material with adult themes. Very much worth a look.
@paulll47Ай бұрын
@@johnsnyder4653 Yeah I like those but they are not official, It's Chaosium's main lineup that lacks teeth.

Gotta say, that last adventure looks pretty sweet. Bits and Pieces does seem pretty silly, though.

Great review. Gave me a good impression of the scenarios.

another great review Jeff of another Call of Cthulhu product I was on the fence about, leaning towards a no. That final scenario make the whole book worth getting? High praise indeed. Now leans towards a Yes!

Keep in mind I said "Almost worth the price of admission." If either of the first two adventures appeal to you then I'd say grab it. If not? I'd recommend a pass. ~ Jeff

Ran Bits & Pieces 7 times at PAX Aus - it is a lively blend of body horror and hilarity. Had people sickened by the viscera, but also engaged in Benny-Hill-esque chases with independent feet. (All our sessions were two hours.)

Unfortunately I'll be giving this one a miss. Chaosium has taken a severe nosedive in quality lately in my opinion. Thanks for the excellent review though.

Can't say I agree, they started the year with the Arkham book which was fantastic, and the Gaslight Investigators guide has reviewed well, as have their Runequest releases. I haven't had much time to dive in to Pendragon yet but I what I have read so far seems great

I have to say it's the last two Cthulhu adventure releases which have been below par for Chaosium. Everything else in the past couple of years has been top notch. ~ Jeff

The Bits and pieces scenario - does it have the feel of the scenarios of Blood Brothers and Blood Brothers 2? Or is it more goofy?

Personally, I'd say it's a bit more goofy. ~ Jeff

Played Bits and pieces over a month ago when someone on the server had a test copy. The story was poor but the group made it somewhat fun. It was just stupid and felt written by a child and not to the level of previous material. Body bits animated trying to reform, but they are in different rooms, leg in the lounge that hops at you, arm in another that grabs and attacks you. Goofy is the right word, I will skip this book i feel
