Whilst I can see the Tor Johnson comparison, it's becomes p. obvious that Mayor Arlington was modelled after Glenn Shadix from Beetlejuice if you run a search on Images. Additionally, one of the Hambleton boys is Willem Dafoe from 'To Live and Die in LA'.

Dude, life expectancy is averaged. Because historically it was common for children to die of illness prior to advanced medical technology, life expectancy was shorter than the average age people would die of old age.

Actually the MAIN reason life expectancy has gone up so much is that kids don't die as much now, but even back then, if you'd made it past 40 you'd pretty much be able to live the rest of your life kinda risk free

Carter??? It's a reference to the character of the same name. I believe they wanted him as a protagonist, but maybe couldn't get the rights to it (similar to innsmouth being turned into illsmouth). Maybe they just forgot to change it near the end.

Technically the most well known Lovecraft inspired franchise is actually Warcraft, hell, the name is even a parody of sorts on Lovecraft xD Though the real Lovecraftian elements didn't really how up until World of Warcraft... Or wait, actually, they did in Warcraft 3 when the Murlocs were introduced xD and then in WoW we god the old gods which obviously are HEAVILY inspired by Lovecraft xD

Actually the life expectancy during that era wasn't all that different than today, what throws off the number is the fact that it's averaged and children were more likely to die, but if you made it to teenage years, or adulthood, your chances of living to an old age were actually pretty decent...
