That was not mason at the end of the campaign. That was Cain, he is a C.I.A agent from the Most Wanted mission. He is the new leader of Pantheon.

Since Black Ops 1, Mason has been brainwashed, and whenever the numbers appear, Mason acts strangely, And he also changed his personality, going to the side of the CIA guys, if he's Alex Mason at the end of Black Ops 6. I haven't played BO6's campaign yet, so I'm not totally sure if there's definitive proof of his death or if it's left a little ambiguous. Honestly I'm just waiting for him to show up in Season 3 to tell everyone about how "he wasn't in that country" and it was actually his identical twin brother Albert Mason that Woods killed

The campaign this year was awesome and definitely one of my favorites in the Black Ops series, I just think the ending is where Treyarch dropped the ball here. Here are my biggest critiques -The big plot twist ended up being that case was under control of the cradle the entire time and they never did anything to continue what I found to be the most suspenseful and interesting part of the story. -I wish that Jane Harrow was a better villain, she was a side character in the beginning who didn’t really do all that much besides appear in a few cutscenes and be talked about off screen. The last mission being all about her backstory seemed kind of anticlimactic. Case Jumping onto Harrow’s helicopter and killing them both to end the game felt too rushed. In my opinion she should’ve gotten away and there have been one more mission where they track her down and finally wrap up the pantheon arc properly. -Lastly, there were no choices you could make throughout the campaign that influenced your ending. This was one of the coolest things about BO2’s campaign and why it’s still the best one.

Trash game Treyarch and Activision just can’t leave the franchise alone but continue it just for the money sake and couldn’t think of any original ideas, but to turn it into an espionage thriller mixed with biological warfare tropes taken from other popular survival horror franchises, such as resident evil. Treyarch has no grounds whatsoever to make a simple military game about simple soldiers anymore. They have far gone away from the gritty and grounded formula of what made Black Ops 1 and 2 great i cannot argue more about how much they missed the mark here completely.
