He is quickly climbing the ranks of 1 of the national police services with the aim of focusing on national security and he lives the mantra: “Not on my watch.” This response from him is not uncommon among his age peers and many others. I'm from the UK and on 9/11 I was visiting my sister who lives about ten miles from the WTC.There are about twenty houses in her street-by 11/11 almost every one had taken in a fire fighter who had travelled from all over the United States to help. Some of their colleagues had been accommodated in school gymnasiums and sports centres but those who stayed with my sister and her neighbours were treated like royalty and deservedly so.People would drive them to the pile where they'd work until their bosses forced them to stop-a phone call day or night and they'd be collected and brought back where they'd sleep until they were taken back again. When they were forced to take a little more time off, after the first week, they'd congregate together in one house, just talking. There was now a whole community of firefighters in one street. They could keep in touch with their families, have decent food and a comfortable place to sleep, not that they would have noticed where they slept.they were so tired. Some stayed for two months and their families came to visit, their fares paid for by the neighbours who had bought them clothes and everything they needed for a prolonged stay-most of the men hadn't really packed, just set off for New York as fast as possible. When they eventually did start to reluctantly go home, they were driven thereThe neighbours weren't heros, not like everyone more closely involved, but they did their bit in a small way to help out.

They WERE heroes. They opened their homes to strangers. Fed and clothed them, gave them somewhere to sleep, and a safe place to talk to each other. People forget about the people who have worked behind the scenes, making things happen. You don't need to have a badge and helmet to be a hero.

I had flown from the Pacific NW to the Midwest because I'd been working there and was coming back to ship my things up to live there permanently. I was at someone's home and was up early for tea and some breakfast. I stepped into the living room to catch a glimpse of the morning news. As I was standing there, the news flashed the first tower which had just been hit. I could hardly believe it. No one knew what happened. Some thought it was a bomb. How could a plane fly right into the tower?! Did the pilot have a heart attack? I said, "Hey! Come see this... the WTC is on fire." Was it someone who had veered off-course somehow? As I was standing there, I literally watched the second plane fly right into the second tower. "OMG" and shock. My jaw dropped open. I yelled to the person there, "Quick! You've got to come see this! A plane just literally flew into the WTC! What is happening?!" It was dark day... followed by an uprising of massive unity. Shocking but solidifying. Tragic but strengthening. It is now 2023. We need to come together again.

I can't speak for those who were directly affected nor those who were there on that day or anything I was too young to understand when it occurred but from the stories I've seen it affected them in different ways even among the survivors some have ptsd from those attacks and can't handle anything related to the event or don't wanna think about it I believe some were so severely affected they took their own lives but for the rest of them they knew that utter despair was part of the goal to demoralize Americans and bring them down but nobody wanted to show that type of defeat to the attackers they knew they had to not let the event break them and that resilience was shared across others and the stories they shared further strengthened their resolve to stay strong plus given the fact that these brave souls rushed into those buildings knowing it was gonna result in their deaths gave many Americans the courage to stand up and fight against terrorists they basically had the mentality that everyone helped everyone out and they can also come and help to. They still were quite upset though they wanted revenge so bad they even wanted those nations to be blown clean off the map and the president basically sent the army into Afghanistan though they ended up screwing that up but a few years after the event people mellowed out and decided to remember the day
