100%. How often did that happen? Almost never - but Vrabel did it. You are spot on - that SHOULD have cemented him as next NE head coach. BUT the lying old fool Kraft didn't want to hire another white head coach. The woke MSM mob doesn't like that, AND the woke msm mob reported that Tennessee would not release Vrabel from his contract anyway. Kraft breathed a sigh of relief: "oh well, I WOULD have hired him if he was available...". HOWEVER, when Tenn finished 6-11, the Titans did a 180 and fired Vrabel ... NOW Kraft COULD hire the guy who (a) WANTED to come here and (b) Kraft (supposedly) wanted...we know most fans did. Turns out, Kraft wasn't really interested in hiring Vrabel at all... he was pretending to have interest when he KNEW Tenn wouldn't let him leave BUT - as soon as he WAS available - Kraft started leaking lies to justify NOT hiring Vrabel, like: Mayo had a 'secret agreement' with Kraft or Belichick to be the next head coach and Vrabel was too 'big and intimidating to the people in the NE front office". All lies to justify NOT hiring the best guy for the job, and hiring an unqualified, no-experience DEI stiff to attempt to learn to be an NFL head coach totally on the fly. What could possibly go wrong. NE couldn't possibly be worse, could they? Turns out - yes, they're worse.

@ I agree! I was confused when Vrabel wasn’t hired during the offseason but decided to give Mayo a chance. The guy is clueless at the podium and the defense has regressed and that should be his specialty. They’re still in the honeymoon phase of Maye’s rookie deal so if there was ever a time to maximize it, it’s now. Quit the BS and get Maye an actual experienced HC, keep AVP as his QB coach and break the damn bank for talent. This off-season will set the precedent for the future of this franchise, the Krafts have to step up. It’s 5 years post Brady and they’re the worst team in the entire league. Maye has the potential to compete with Allen, set the kid up for success. Vrabel will bring a hard nose toughness to this team that it needs. These guys are now used to losing which is awful, have Jerod be an assistant coach until he has more experience. I’m not sure why they’re making it more difficult than it has to be. FFS get it done!

Whomever is coach for the next season needs to have a detailed plan on how they're going to turn the team around and must be given all the resources needed to execute their vision to the fullest extent possible. No penny pinching or hemming or hawing, same for the coordinators and position coaches, because all phases need work.

Team are constantly trying to upgrade player positions. Why not upgrade the coaching with a Vrabel hire. It wouldn't even cost draft picks or cap space. It would take Mayo years to reach Vrabel's level, if ever.

No idea if Vrabel is the right guy or not. Certainly didnt end too well for him with the Titans. Maybe a second run will be better for him, but if the Krafts are going to fire Mayo, I'd hope they'd have an interview process with several candidates to hopefully find the right guy.

Personally I like Mayo and hoped he would do well as a first year HC. The truth is, these guys are right saying. that he was set up to fail. That being said, ownership should either fire him as the HC or move him to another part of the business if like him. Vrabel and McDaniels makes the most sense and honestly I was hoping they where going to bring them in this season to support Mayo. That would make switching to Vrabel as the interim HC a much easier transition for the team should Mayo fail. Alas, here we are.

It seems like an obvious no brainer at first but you throw in the fact that RKK has gone all in on JM & would def have some egg on his face if he ends up firing him after just a single season. And I have to wonder how much he thinks that would tarnish his legacy & stall his entry into the Hall of Fame? Secondly, the Krafts would have to pay the current staff and also much more money to a new staff ie., Vrabel & McDaniel, et al. That's out of the norm for them so while I do believe it is the right path to take, I doubt they do it.

It’s funny how much patriots fans don’t actually know about how Vrabel ended in Tennessee. 6-18 in his last 24 games. Titans ranked 28th and 26th in penalties his last 2 years. He backstabbed his own GM and got him fired. If you watched his last dozen or so press conferences he said a lot of the stuff mayo did. But patriots fans like Vrabel so they don’t care about any of that. If Vrabel had this pats team he would suck to only difference is the fans wouldn’t blame him.

Tbh, the GM trading away AJ Brown was the beginning of his downfall. And before that Vrable had success with a Ryan Tannehill led squad, even got to the playoffs multiple years. Mayo has shown zero growth as a HC talent or not, and he constantly has his foot in his mouth. He lacks aggression and balls in critical moments and is more focused on being a player coach than a tactician. Kraft seems intent on bringing him back though so we’ll see

Vrabel took over a 9-7 titans team with a hall of fame running back and 4 pro bowl offensive lineman. A GM that drafted Simmons and AJ Brown. Again people don’t know all this and I get it why should we care about what the titans are doing. But Vrabel took over a good titans team with way more pieces than the patriots have. If Drake had 8 seasons like Tanehill had this fanbase would love him. But because Tanehill wasn’t a patriot fans around here give him no credit. Reminds me of Tua or when it took Greg Bedard years to admit Josh Allen was good

The Tenn front office tanked that team. Not many head coaches have had the kind of success Vrabel had with so little to work with. His QB - Tannehill - was cut last year and NO TEAM picked him up. He's STILL a free agent. HIs last year he had Levis - who is an INT machine. He's a defensive minded coach and his D - with minimal talent - was ranked 14th. Offensively - with stiffs like Tannehill while trading away talent like AJ Brown for nothing - the offense was terrible. Still, bozo, Vrabel HAS COACHING EXPERIENCE. He coached at Ohio State (LB coach) then Houston (LB coach then DC) then HEAD COACH at Tenn - who were notorious for poor talent. Mayo wasn't qualified to be DC, never mind making the unfathomable leap to HC.

My mistake and perhaps Mike Vrabel would be a good coach for the Patriots. But smart teams always interview more than once qualified candidate. I would like to see Hall of Fame Coach Jimmie Johnson leave the Fox Network and come out of retirement. He is still young enough and more than qualified. The Patriots landing someone like him would be great.

The players are LESS inclined - not more - to play for Mayo than they were for Belichick...they may have played for BB because they feared for their jobs, but so what - they tried. These guys aren't prepared and aren't trying - which clown Mayo calls 'inconsistency'...another way of him unwittingly saying 'poor coaching'. HIs assistants are horrendous - particularly on defense where the D dropped like a rock this year towards the bottom of the league after being top 10 last season.
