What a simple yet thrilling film with a top cast of Seventies' British acting talent. I missed this sort of thing being very small back then, but I find this the antidote to the rot that can be found on the crap-pump these days, and relish the meandering but clever storylines and the actors acting and not merely standing there looking pretty. Thanks, John. As an additional bit of hilarious interest, I see that big Dave Prowse has had his Wurzel accent dubbed again!

I saw this film recently on television. The Jaguar in the car chase was manufactured in 1968 according to the registration number so would have only been five years old in 1973. A shame such a relatively young car got wrecked. In the 1971 film Villain starring Richard Burton a 3.8 litre Jaguar S Type, manufactured 1963 - 68, gets destroyed in a getaway scene.

I was 7 years old when a magnum for Schneider was first show on TV, over the years I've watched it many times and each time it becomes more relevant in many ways, it must have been 50 years ahead of its self, Woodward played Callan well but lonely (my favourite, Russel Hunter) was a great supporting actor you couldnt help feeling sorry for him, allways in way above his head and as he often said "Mr Callan, i dont want to do this dont make me" . . Meres. Toby Valentine was also a great actor .they dont make them like that any more,

I am so enjoying watching this Callan "movie" I assume it was a spin off from the original Callan series. Wonderful to see some of the old cast. Edward Woodward was my "hero" when I was a youngster, he was a not to miss actor back in the day. Wish I had been a bit older to have appreciated all the little quirks. I loved the series, this is a bonus!

@@JohnMillingtonAEIOU They were making 'Callan' TV shows for about a decade before this film came out. 'The Section' as described in 'Callan' is a fantasy, they spend their time hunting other spies.

Yes, a great little film. We could have head a world-class film industry producing twenty films of this quality every year but the shadow government is too small-minded and rely on the t.v., radio and print medium to keep people's thinking in line. Best, John.

'Callan' was worlds away from 'The Equaliser.' The series began in 1967 and was in black and white; even as a young boy I found it compelling. It had a very realistic, seedy kind of mood to it all - the interplay between Edward Woodward, the maloderous 'Lonely'/Russell Hunter and the oily 'Toby Meres'/Anthony Valentine was gripping and slightly sadistic. I realise this in hindsight of course, but I certainly found this tense and quite sordid minor masterpiece fascinating even at that tender age. Every bit as well crafted and believable as a John Le Carré piece.
