I love my standard triple diamond. I’m a natural straight to baby fader of the ball with a driver. The low spin helps me get more distance. The sound and feel is amazing.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the TD MAX. First time I took it to the range, I had a guy come up to me asking what I was hitting because it sounded absolutely amazing. Even though I don’t have a launch monitor, the TD MAX sounds, feels and hits the flight profile that I look for, and I could tell that the dispersion was very tight.

About time someone compares the two! But… why add weight to the regular 3D? Wouldn’t it be a true comparison if the heads be original instead of making them the same weight? Just asking….Thanks 👍🏾

The added weight is to make sure the only variable is the head style so that from a timing point of view they swing the same - this makes it the truest comparison as different head weights means different swing weights and as a result one will strike better for me

It has proved very good in fittings for that bit more stability. Pretty much all the 9 deg heads are gone now though!

I was able to get one and it took the driver spot in my bag...had standard paradym. My synopsis...3d max start line is more consistent. Distance, launch, speed, etc to patadym (and ai smoke max) are the same. Dispersion is the same. 3d max may have a longer ball in it. If you like the "player" shape then go 3d max. If head shape makes no difference to you then ai smoke max is just as good.

The TD Max is definitely lower spin and the ability to move weight back and forward makes it more versatile from a set up point of view. It also sits less closed

This Triple Diamond Max is just like the regular Triple Diamond in the older Epic Speed and Rogue ST models. A slightly higher spinning more neutral head. Most people who spin it too much simply strike the ball low and heel which gears the ball. Low spin is really a launch monitor selling point because the best course driver is usually spinning more than what people think they should, i.e. 2,500 rpm on center strike versus 2,000 rpm because a mishit on the toe will drag spin way down and you could be hitting 3 off the tee as a result.

Hi Simon, wouldn’t a 10.5* TD be somewhat equivalent to a 9* TD max? Since you’re talking about spin saving your poor strikes

The issue is likely to be the launch angle going to the higher loft. Spin would be higher but you also need to consider the launch angle as well

@@Precision_Golf hmm so what you’re saying is if the person loves to see a towering ball flight, the standard higher lofted TD would theoretically work just as well as a lower lofted TDMax? Or does launch angle play a part in how the ball disperses? I’m playing a 10.5 Paradym TD S and find the loft, and in turn spin, gives me that forgiveness especially the toe strikes you mentioned. My M2/Sim OG would have sent me oh so left..

@@aywm6792 the lower lofted TD Max will not launch as high as the higher lofted TD but the spin consistency on the TD Max is still slightly safer

Quick q on shafts if you don’t mind. Is the KBS Tour V, the same profile as the Modus 130 but just lighter ? Also, second part to the question, if someone liked the Modus 130, what would be a comparable fairway shaft to match ? Thanks

The Tour-V is stiffer tip but in the 130 (Tour X flex) is stiffer all through - (pretty brutal actually) whereas the Modus is stiff butt but softer tip proportionately. In a fairway Ventus Red TR is similar to Modus 130 in terms of profile as well as Accra TZ Gen2 Six series, Mitsubishi Diamana GT (slightly more tip balanced though)

If is that bit lower spin - Darkspeed X when it is good it is really good but a little hit and miss but TD max has been very very consistent

They come out with new drivers every year, what difference does it make? If your driver fits you, keep it. If it doesn't, why did you buy it? And then sell it anyway. You'll get more money now than when new models come out anyway. Useless complaint

@@kvgolfa wrong, useful complaint, when being fitted, it would be better to try all versions. My driver works well, but would have liked to try a low spin version. We dealt with spin by lowering loft. Triple Diamond might have dealt with things easier.

Maybe they tried to go at what ping did with 10k ( spins lower than max but higher than lst) but couldn’t make it as forgiving as the ping.

Max forgiveness was not the focus but more of a lower spin Ai Smoke Max - when you move weight forward to reduce spin then reduced forgiveness is a necessary by product

@@suprand the heavy back weight can make the Ping harder to square for some players so the TD Max with weight more forward can be much better for these players

The TD Max is almost as forgiving as the GT2 but is lower spin, the GT3 seems to be close on spin but not as forgiving as TD Max. The Callaway does have the most versatility from weight placement to hosel adjustability too.
