Would you buy the Epic or Rogue for £429 or the XR Speed for £300?

Titleist all day long, two year cycles is the sign of an honest company...

I think this one is aimed at your higher handicaps

Neither. Spending that on a club is a waste of money, I hit straighter, longer drives with my £40 Ram Laser

Released without jailbreak so next month they can add jailbreak and release again for May and maintain their driver per month schedule.

Golf Clubs are bought & sold as fashion statements nowadays & if money was no object I'd be changing clubs all the time too. The analogy I would offer is this; If a Tradesman had a good set of tools that looked a bit tatty but could still produce good results, would He go out & buy "Shinier tools" cos they looked better ?.
@TheAverageGolfer6 жыл бұрын
great analogy, I always blame the tools!

Good review. This is as good as any driver on the market based on the numbers I'd say. The few fades you hit as opposed to your usual draw would account for the higher spin and launch numbers. A 2 or 3 year old driver is still a much better deal but anyone looking for new should give this consideration.

I think the 2nd hand market will be booming in the next 12 months

great review! I don't like the look of the rouge either but hopefully more testing will bring it up to the epic/rouge distance.
@mikeb38356 жыл бұрын
You seemed to be hitting a slightly higher fade, instead of your usual draw pull, which could account for the spin rate and distance numbers.
@TheAverageGolfer6 жыл бұрын
Yes trying to rid my hook and yes will effect spin and distance as you say

250 down the center line looks pretty good to me. I wonder if the few mph loss is the slight driver swing change you have made to improve accuracy?
@TheAverageGolfer6 жыл бұрын
Yes I would agree and should have hit some of my current driver on the day for comparison

The XR speed wasn’t out when I bought the Rogue - I would have tried them all in fitting and bought what suited me and my budget the best. I’m not bothered how often they bring clubs out - I swap when I need/want to and always by a fitting with other clubs to compare (my prior wood were the G30 - fitting indicated the swap was sensible (for me)
@jamesbrown63726 жыл бұрын
I’d love to get fitted into the xr speed. The epic and rouges have looked like toys/cars from need for speed/something a 10 yr old would draw. The xr looks like a lovely club, classic design

I will stick with my Covert 2 for the foreseeable future. Tried the G400 on a demo day and hit 5 draw/hooks into the poo. 2 drives with mine were down the middle. The four way roll on the face doesn't suit my eye but that didn't explain the shots I was hitting. Finding out that I had been set up with the draw bias head did!

bought the Rogue this morning with an average of 20 yards extra carry! something seiously wrong with my previous ping i20 driver!! should make this 12 to single a little easier!! g400 max was ballooning all over the place :/

My XR16 performs as well as the Rogue, M2’s & G400 for me. I went from a G30 to the XR. I’m just not seeing earth shattering results from the latest and greatest. My buddy just got the M4 with a tinsi shaft which I’ve hit on a few holes, now that driver is a good one

Just traded in a Rogue for the XR Speed. Hits longer and straighter for me.
@601slacky6 жыл бұрын
Although cheaper than rogue it’s still expensive. I have noticed that Callaway have brought out a 2018 version of the X Series Driver. Currently it’s selling at £179 at American golf. Would be interesting to see you review this club or do a head to head video with this club against the xr speed
@TheAverageGolfer6 жыл бұрын
I will see if we have this at Foregolf, good idea
@jonasandersen21266 жыл бұрын
great video :) How does the skytrack numbers compare with what you see outside when playing a round? Good enough to get carry distances accurate enough?
@MrKarju86 жыл бұрын
The face can not be faster, it can not be hotter. The COR rule sets a limit to it so it can not go any further. Same with all drivers. Sure the sweetspot can be bigger and the club can be travelling faster but these are all really minute differences. You can buy a driver from 2013 that will be as long as all the 800€ drivers in the market today.
@chuckwalla29674 жыл бұрын
Had this driver but didn't like it. It sounds like beer can getting crushed at impact. Remember that square driver Callaway made 10+ years ago? It sounds similar to that. Also didn't like how when you set the club down at address, the face is open and you have to manually close it.

Andy I think this is the old XR driver with a carbon head. This driver isn't available in the States,can you tell me why?

I just cannot get used to the closed face of the Callaway Drivers. My numbers are very close to yours and yesterday I went off driver shopping. Went through them all. For myself The winner was the 10.5 Ping with a regular flex shaft. Good spin ,distance and dispersion. Most of the time I use the 5.5 Project X and get on with it well. However the Ping shaft ( no idea who makes it for them ) was better. The TM M4 was second and the Epic/Rogue was 3rd ( too much spin ) and the F8 cobra was very nice felling but inconsistent for myself. My son plays the Titleist and he hits it very well but I find it just average so did not test it
@banditbaker16756 жыл бұрын
PING design the shaft and lay down the specification and then a number of OEM companies build the shafts for them. End result is a much better shaft with better/tighter tolerances than the "off the shelf" shaft offering used by other companies.

Nice looking club as you say. Price point (£300) release for those who don’t want to spend over £400
@TheAverageGolfer6 жыл бұрын
It is definately released for pricing issues on the Rogue and Epic

Wouldn't touch either, just not a callaway fan. Taylormade get a bad reputation for releasing clubs but callaway are way worse.
@mkmkm00006 жыл бұрын
David Fletcher agree entirely. They keep churning clubs out far too frequently.
@davidleigh25736 жыл бұрын
None of them! They are all too expensive and Callaway will no doubt bring out some other over hyped driver within a year.
@TheAverageGolfer6 жыл бұрын
Fair enough!
@mikebest6346 жыл бұрын
might be a good idea to test the club with the real Hazardous shaft compared to the made for that comes with the the driver ,not saying the made for is bad ,it would probably work well with plenty of players .If you look around you can pick up last years in shaft at very good prices I would always pick the real deal deal shafts as the made for version has too many variables ,as an example you could try a demo shaft in made for ,and when you got your nice new club it could feel totally different to the demo one you tried ,the tolerances are just too much .

I personally don't understand Callway's strategy in coming out with this driver. It's still pricey and, for me at least, goes backwards in time with technology used when compared to the epic and rogue drivers. Granted it looks nice I just don't see the point.
@banditbaker16756 жыл бұрын
Basically it`s a Rogue with a different paint job and without Jailbreak. Which is an interesting move from Callaway, because it will expose how little difference Jailbreak actually makes. TM have received a lot of criticism recently for their Marketing BS, but IMO Callaway are just as bad if not worse!!!!!
