@@JenniferSmith-gt4kn When a person has a true testimony of the Gospel, they live the Gospel to the best of THEIR abilities, not to the abilities of other individuals. If you constantly base your Eternal well being on others, you will always find fault and fall short yourself. This will not be a good excuse in Christ's eyes. To pick out certain members and say they aren't living the Gospel to the best of your abilities isn't fair. We all fall short of living it 100%, even the Prophet himself will tell you he has his own struggles, we are human. Plus, to make such a comment to a young man who is thinking of going on a Mission for our Lord , makes me wonder what your true motives may actually be. The Lord sees through everyone will will hold all accountable for their thoughts and their actions.

I'm proud of David for coming out. Aside from me not being famous, our situations are so similar. I went on a mission, went to BYU-Idaho, was an Elders Quorum president, and worked in the temple. I came out at 26. It was and is so difficult. Like David, I love the church and wish it no ill. I just feel sad that there is only a place for me there if I live a life without companionship and love from a partner.

As a heterosexual female who has also served a mission, held various callings, and have a strong testimony I can tell you that looking at life from your perspective is very short sited. I am almost 49 and have never been married. It is fact that I am many other men and women will find this to be our mortal experience. I chose to keep my covenants, including the law of chastity. Therefore, I'm also choosing to be alone (as in unpartnered) in order to keep the companionship of the holy ghost, so that I'm never truly alone. Is it easy? NO! But whether a person is gay or straight, we're making the choice to follow Christ or to deviate from His eternal path for us.

My wife and I attended one of his concerts here in Jersey. The Starland Ballroom. There were few seats and most of the people were standing only feet from him while he was on stage. Most were very young girls. He actually stopped the concert and asked everyone to respect and be careful of the ones in the front lines, not to push and hurt the ones up there. He was very concerned for everyone's safety and that only made my wife and I a bigger fan of his. He truly has a Great Heart and is a Beautiful person. I will never forget that small concert in Sayreville, NJ nor will I ever forget what a wonderful person David is... God Bless him...

My mother has gone on to be with God - David was absolutely her favorite American Idol and she knew he would win the very first song he sang . She would be so proud that he chose to do The Lords work . To a very sick woman and many bad days before she passed - He seemed to be one of the things that brought her joy . I have been following David's career for years and have enjoyed everything he has accomplished. He is such an inspiration to me and this Called to Serve video brought me to tears many times. So many parts of this video are ones that I enjoy so often each year. David's music is always enjoyed every Easter and Christmas as well as all of his contemporary Christian music. He lived in our ward in Tennessee for awhile after his mission, and I got to work with him at the Bishop's Storehouse several times. He was so fun to be around, so selfless and humble, too. Such a fine young man with a beautiful and sincere testimony and desire to serve the Lord and His children.

I will never forget his rendition of "Imagine" on American Idol. I mean I grew up with that song and the way it was delivered that evening was truly a spiritual awakening. I have to give mad props to David for his strong belief in Christ and God the Father. I think he knew deep down inside that participating in and serving Christ through his 2 year mission, that Christ would not allow his gift of music and singing to falter in any way, shape or form. He shared it through his mission and I am sure daily. God bless David and welcome back home from your mission. I am positive that your life has truly been transformed. I am a catholic but not a practicing catholic. I lost my faith some time back and I truly dont know if I will ever get it back.
