I was very confused by your singing of "How firm a foundation" at the end of this video. This hymn was written in 1787 and is saying that the foundation for our faith is the Bible, and we don't need anything else---"What more can He say than to you He hath said?" (a rhetorical question, to which the answer is nothing!) The author of this hymn is saying that God has given us what we everything we need in the Bible to understand our faith. How do you understand this hymn in light of the additional scriptures your church accepts, as well as the possibility of new revelation from modern prophets? Isn't that more that God is saying?
@graysonhardman12506 ай бұрын
Hey! Thanks for commenting your question. I didn’t know the history behind that hymn, thanks for sharing! In our faith we believe that God will always communicate with his children, and that revelation is ongoing. God calls prophets to teach his children, and we believe that he still calls prophets today. While we love and read from the Bible, we know that there are more sources to learn about God and Jesus Christ. Here are some scriptures we read from that mention the need for prophets and apostles, even some written after Jesus Christ’s death. (Amos 3:7, John 21:25, Ephesians 2:20, Ephesians 4:11-12) Sorry that I can’t answer your question fully, if you’d like to learn more there are local missionaries in your area that would love to talk more with you! www.comeuntochrist.org

@@jlewis8145 Thanks again for sharing! It might surprise you to know that I agree with you! Jesus Christ has already atoned for our sins and we need to accept Him. You’re absolutely correct that Christ has paid the price for each of us. We need to accept Him! A lot of times in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we put too much emphasis on what we must personally do to accept Christ rather than on emphasizing the great sacrifice that He has already made for us. We are better Christians when we remember and put the emphasis on the Savior. At the same time, Christ himself emphasizes a gospel of action. It is not enough to merely say that we accept Him without showing it. That is why we serve missions. Christ himself commands his disciples at the end of Matthew to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.” At the end of John, Christ emphasizes the importance to feed his sheep. He taught sermons on personal conduct and gave commandments of how to live, so that we can feel His atoning grace more in our lives. James famously states that faith without works is dead. If we only focus on faith in Christ without acting like Him, we only have part of His power. By being baptized like He was and following His perfect example, we fulfill his great commission to “Follow Me.” You’re correct, Jesus paid the price for each of us. We need to acknowledge our sin and ask for His forgiveness. But we also need to take personal action to follow Him. I really appreciate your response and your respectful words. Thanks for your question!

Mormon gospel before Christ? One of the books in the Mormon collection of so-called scripture is Ether. It claims to cover a time period from about 2600 BC to 600 BC. It alludes to the great tower (tower of Babel) when people rebelled against God. So, low and behold, Jesus Christ reveals himself to Jared and his brother and tells them to get to work and build some barges for a great voyage to a new world (Ether 2:12, 2:16, 3:1). Rather strange that Jesus had yet to be born in Jerusalem and be given the name Jesus, but this is Mormonism. These eight barges have a hole in the bottom and in the top, but no windows for air. There is no mention of these vessels having sails yet they managed to go either around the Horn of Africa, or through the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic Ocean. Keep in mind that this Joseph Smith found the golden plates with this record on a hill in New York, but Mormons claim the barges actually landed somewhere in southern Mexico near present day San Lorenzo. Therefore, they lay claim to the Olmec civilization as proof of this wild story. In Ether 4:3 there is mention of the people rejecting the "gospel of Christ" (who had not been born yet much less been to the cross) therefore the brother of Jared leads the people on these barges being lit by magic stones that produce light (3:4) as a result of being touched by the Lord. For 344 days they were driven by stormy seas to the promised land. It has been pointed out that Columbus made his round trip to America and back in only 221 days, and they spent time exploring many islands along the way. Ether records numerous things in the new world, such as steel swords, that did not show up for hundreds of years when they were brought by Europeans (Ether 7:9). Check out Ether 9:17-19 for a list of other questionable items: silk, swine, horses, asses, and elephants.

I think it is always good to ask questions, but I want to say, it is not about the facts, it is about faith. I choose to believe even though there is confusion, because the same thing applies to the Bible and Jesus, believing in them requires faith and if I believe in God, I believe all things are possible through him, so even things that are cause for doubt are not that big of a deal to me. Additionally, there is also a lot of things that support the Book of Mormon like the mound builder civilization, and various artifacts and folk tales. Also, Christ is the most important part of Latter-day saint doctrine, we are taught to follow him before all else. And I have a testimony of the church, because it follows the Bible to a tee, there are many things that are mentioned in the Bible that are often forgotten, but the LDS doctrine remembers them and calls back to them. For example, in Corinthians "There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. 42So also is the resurrection of the dead." It mentions something that there are different types of celestial bodies with different glories and brightness in the sky, then it follows this by saying that this is how the resurrection is. This supports the LDS doctrine of degrees of glory in heaven, and this makes sense as all were saved by the atoning blood of Christ, but we are only able to grow from that point on by being like unto him. Another example is found in Peter: "Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. 6For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit." This verse supports the practice of baptisms for the Dead and supports the idea of spirit prison and paradise after death as a waiting period before judgment day and Heaven and Hell, because there is an opportunity to have the Gospel preached to you, even after death. This makes sense as well, because God is merciful and just, if he gave one man access to Heaven who was born into a Christian household and chose Christ, but not another who never had a chance to learn of the Gospel, he would not be a God of Justice and Mercy, and this goes against everything the Bible teaches, the same applies to baby baptism, if God subjected an innocent child to the fires of hell for dying in child birth, but not to the baby who was baptized without any actual commitment to the Gospel he would not be Just. Christ himself said that children among all things are precious, and that harming them is similar to tying a millstone around your neck and plunging to the bottom of the sea. Baptism for babies implies that God would send these innocent little one's that Christ himself said were spotless to hell. This is idea is not Just nor Godly. There are many reasons I support the Church, but none are as powerful as the fact that I was hell-bent on killing myself, and God reached out to me and asked "Would ye seek to give up?" he changed my heart and my attitude in a second due to the ounce of faith I gave him when I asked him to smite me so I would not have to do it myself. And in Ether 12 it talks about al miracles coming from faith, I testify that The Book of Mormon is true, because its fruits are real and good, and yes Joseph Smith was not perfect, but nobody is, and some of the best prophets did even worse things, look at King David and his psalms, they have helped countless people, but he was a sinner. Sorry for long response, I just think it is unfair to give criticism of things like "knowing the name of Jesus before he was born" when God is a God of miracles, and all things are possible through him. Why would he leave out an entire continent of people from hearing the Gospel? When he could definitely do something about it by sending people like Jaredites and Nephites across the seas to the Americas.

Your main issue was that I don't test my testimony with the actual Bible. Yet, the idea that we can pray to know the truth comes directly through the Bible. (One example is James 1:5-6, not to mention when Jesus Himself teaches the idea.) Yes, other faiths have testimonies and believe different things. But in our faith, we base our testimony off of a personal experience with the Holy Ghost. Other religions simply do not believe in a personal witness. Instead, they focus on scripture or tradition. Jesus himself tells Peter that "the Holy Ghost" was what revealed unto him the truth of Christ's ministry. Jesus taught that through the spirit, we can know all things. If one prays to know whether this Church, Book of Mormon, or even Prophet is truly from God, they can know for themselves. God reveals the truth to those who willingly and sincerely seek it. @@graysonhardman1250 you used James 1:5-6 out of context , not surprising, it's about asking for wisdom , not a specific knowledge(wanting to know something specific, like if a prophet is true, that is a type of knowledge , wisdom on the other hand would make you follow the word of God that says to test that prophet in order to know, a specific knowledge and wisdom are two different things ) wisdom involves understanding and acting in accordance with God’s word in everyday life, not merely ignoring the biblical mandate to test prophets. Not ignoring the word of God, and when we ask for wisdom we should have faith that we've already received. That's what that verse is talking about , Those James verses do not exclude the fact the bible says to test prophets according to the word , using James to justify accepting a prophet without considering these tests may overlook the broader biblical directive, So no you can't just use that James verse and then ignore the test .which your prophet clearly fails so I can understand why they want you guys to ignore it and want you to use James 1:5-6 out of context and misinterpretation. and it's not even about some of his prophecies still having a chance of happening , it's the fact some had an actual time frame and they did not come to pass , and according to the word of God , not your opinion , not how you feel, he would be a false prophet, but of course you'll make excuses and use verses out of context, and say something right out of a script like they all do, which sadly makes you all ignore the word of God and rely on your feelings and misinterpreting scripture. All I can do is pray the day when you do see the truth , because there will come a day when you do, I pray that when that happens , when you leave Mormonism that it doesn't make you turn away from God but towards him , as I know you're emotionally invested in that community , but when the scales fall off I pray you have the strength and awareness to look to God of the bible and the bible only and nothing else. All love bro , I'll end it here , Take care , bye

Also, many Old Testament prophets were similar in the practice of Polygamy, Jospeh Smith from personal accounts said he did not want to do this, but he did because God asked him to, why that happened I'm not even sure, but I have faith that God had a reason. The same thing was asked of Abraham when he had to marry Haggai to have Ishmael. Personally, I do not think it could be an untrue cult because Christianity started from Christ who some consider to be a cult leader, but Christianity put out great things, and it has survived the test of time, just like the LDS Church has. Acts 5: 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. 33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them. 34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. 36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. 40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

@@aguirrejaimerson This accusation is simply inaccurate and means nothing. As missionaries, we invite others to learn more about God. There is no intent to rule, to oppress, to own or deceive. The invitation is to learn and be more like Christ and all can accept or reject.

Thats true boss, theyre truly doing no different than following Satan

@@Petar06x Just so I understand correctly, I volunteer 2 years of my life to help people learn more about Jesus Christ while performing community service and fulfilling Jesus' command in the Bible to "Make disciples of all nations"- and all I'm doing is following Satan?
@graysonhardman12503 ай бұрын
If you watched the video, what you would see are two young men who devote themselves to Christ and try to share God's word with others. They provide service at a community food bank, give English classes to immigrants, and testify of Jesus. If you are a part of a different religious perspective that's fine, but to write off this missionary service as nothing but "two heretics" is just innaccurate.

@@graysonhardman1250 Correct, you're commiting blasphemy by believing that you can also become a God, how ridiculous does that sound bro :/ That's the reason why sin started in the first place, Satan wanted to become God/Like God. Please repent and quit following this satanic church, it's doing you no good and the true Lord Yahshua can truly set you free of sin, not some false prophet named Joseph Smith

@@graysonhardman1250You don't even believe in the Trinity and you believe God the father gained divinity, being a man at first? That means he's created since he's in creation. Do you believe in the big bang bro? I genuinely am so curious but these beliefs just sound goofy my brother. Please do better and pray for the true God to save you. Your dedication is truly cool to see though, it's sad that it's of a false view on the Lord :/
