Nets Fan here. DFS was super solid on defense, can switch and defend 3-5, was getting shots off good creation from Dennis and Simmons as well as solid ball/player movement. Also moved the ball well. this trade will have a bigger impact than people think. still wont be a title contender but his defense is good, and extremely good when you account he will replace dlo. Last couple of years, Kenny? Check the Lakers Front Office history from circa 2012 until now. Team building and maneuvers seem akin to tossing behind the back darts at a dart board obscured by two wall dividers. They got a championship and were able to get LeBron (because he chose to go there) and AD, but... Most moves seem to make little sense from a basketball perspective (Rui and DFS are good moves, not going to criticize those). It's like Pelinka and the FO see role players succeed in certain systems and think "Oh, we'll just plug them in here and they will get that production" without understanding the fundamental ways in which those players operated within a team concept to give them the numbers they had. Without understanding the ways in which certain players in other systems could excel in different roles and positions on the court. There's been little pulse on flow for damn near a decade. This is a front office that is content to leverage the name on the front of their jersey and resell the history generated. With all this said, DFS is a good move for a versatile point of attack defender and floor stretcher and I don't think DLo was the answer at guard. But... this team is way too dependent on point Bron play. Their guards aren't table setters and are mediocre at best defenders and shot makers. Other than AD, they have no help defender worth a damn. Bron doesn't get back for transition defense as much as he used to. They're old and vulnerable there against teams that can take advantage of that. Bron cannot break people off the dribble as much as he used to and while he does a lot of these moves to draw the secondary defender to generate the lane for a pass and while Dorian will absolutely help knock down shots in this scenario, I just don't think this puts them over the top or in much better position than they were in. Cavs are going to tear them apart in a few days, back-to-back be damned.
