Tyson has solidified himself as the backup QB. Pretty cool. We all should be happy that QB development is an actual thing in Chicago these days. I’m going to enjoy the season with Caleb leading the offense. The good, the bad & the ugly. I’m here for all of it. Should be a hellava season to remember.
@Chitex032 ай бұрын
Good take. Yeah, the hype is real but give Caleb a few years of NFL football and we’ll know who we have as a franchise QB. Even with Stroud and Love, you gotta still see how they do in their second seasons after the defenses have a year of tape on these guys and how they adjust. The process is the process, it won’t be automatic.

@@LooknJB Well, look, he isn't the only person ever to Form An Opinion based on their preference then argue from that. Bears' fans: "Fields sucked & it had _nothing whatever to do_ with play-calling." Also :"we're glad Getsy's gone. He sucked." At what? something _other than_ play-calling? This assessment of Getsy is based on fans in '23 starting to ask why he didn't return to calling the plays that unlocked Fields' potential in '22, those games they used the designed Rushes & a *lot* of different plays that improved all the offense. The Bears averaged 31 points across those 4 games 17.3 when they didn't use those plays. It not only took selective memory to forget why you all didn't ask this the week they stopped using those plays, it took selective memory to blame Getsy. You can't have it both ways. If we know Getsy's responsible for the Bad Plays because Eberflus doesn't call the offense then he's also responsible for the good ones. If We The Fans can see the difference but Eberflus couldn't, how tf is he in any way competent? The only scenario that makes sense is that Eberflus, who did boast about meddling in the offensive play-calling forced Getsy to Do As Told. That means that returning to plays know to reduce the scoring by 2 TDs a game had to be intentional. After a year, y'all forgot all about this & started wondering aloud again, but at the time Everyone Knew it was a Deliberate Coaching Decision. Just like those plays ordering Fields to Not Throw to certain receivers on certain plays, even if that was the only receiver to get open. Media hounded *Eberflus,* not Getsy about that because Eberflus made it clear he was meddling in the offense. Fields called him out on it & suddenly the Bears switched plays & Fields proved everybody wrong, that _only_ the play-calling was holding him back. At the time, everyone dismissed this because they wanted for whatever reason to Protect Eberflus. I don't know why Bears fans sided with this unproven HC, but it's what happened. so y'all tried to dismiss Fields' success as a fluke. Well, thankfully he's on a team with inept play-calling & decision-making because the Steelers drafted o-line the past 2 drafts & still can't hold any pockets. Plus Arthur Smith seems to be calling for All Receivers to stay within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage, as always. Tomlin allows all his coaches to walk all over him & refuses to fire them no matter how inept they prove themselves. He didn't fire Matt Canada when MC said _publicly_ that "this team can't mount comeback wins." This was after they had done so 4 times!!! He didn't fire a coach that didn't believe his players were competent! He holds no one accountable.
@nalvarado652 ай бұрын
@ChewsCarefully You went from making excuses for Fields when he was here to making excuses for Fields with the Steelers before his season even starts. It's OK to be a loyal supporter but it has to be exhausting to go through all of that. How about this. If Wilson is the Steelers starter, as bad as he is, than it's because he flat out beat Fields for the position. If you'd say Tomlin can't recognize what he has, I'd say there definitely is someone in the room who can't recognize talent.

Seems like Tom Brady won most games by knowing where to toss the ball- not by making crazy athletic passes. That is step one. Once step one is done then the broken play highlight film play once in a while is fun. If Da Bears start 0-4, Flus will start feeling pressure and want some basic game management. Lets hope that CW reads the defense, identifies the open man and delivers the ball with anticipation. If he is scrambling 8 times a half then he is missing the open man too often.

Totally understand that Caleb is showing special skills that hardly any QB can do. I certainly don’t anticipate him getting benched. Not to bring up the past but at the Vikings game last year when Fields hurt himself running around the field, it was noticeable how much smoother things were with Bagent. Obviously he doesnt have nearly the same arm talent or athleticism. But he’s more of a steady drive QB than Justin who had to rely on big chunk plays to get yardage. Bagent went 2-2 as a starter in his rookie year (granted against mostly bad teams) but if you can have a .500 backup QB, that’s really valuable. Obviously Caleb is #1 forever and always

Bagent should be starting he is farther along than Williams. Williams will be a great QB! Mahomes sat his 1st year. Bagent played an almost perfect game. He will be a starter and a stud in the NFL. Anyone who thinks he won't be is smoking dope. William's is 100 times better than Fields.
@zachsullivan20502 ай бұрын
Think this is pretty sound thinking however most probably won’t begin to consider it as an option unfortunately. Bagent seems ready and deserving of some time, think this team would do some damage with him starting out the gate. I think there will be an adjustment window for the rookie and anticipate some turmoil through the first half of the season as he gets his feet under him. Hopefully any struggles won’t be met with a short fused and hostile response from our fanbase. Caleb has a high degree of confidence and perhaps he will be impervious to the potential pitfalls that the struggle may bring but I would groom him like KC did Mahomes and give Bagent the opportunity to showcase himself early this season. If he performs well, you now have a load of known value there either to keep on your roster or for trade potential. If he doesn’t excel, you’ve successfully tempered expectation from Caleb and provided some buffer for him on his pathway to success; he really could only be the hero in that case. At any rate, this team seems improved at the QB position and I’m looking forward to seeing it on the field.

Most all 1st picks at qb.dont work out., historically. Williams looks the part but was barely above avg.last yr.playing 2nd tier competition in college.Hes smooth throws a decent ball and moves well. Will it all translate to W's?Only if he has an o-line. Which IMO is what actually needed to be adressed not drafting a ? at qb.3 &4 of 7 passing and getting lucky on a couple of those plays is flying by the seat of your pants.

Listen to these announcers: "Tyson Bagent cannot do the special things that an NFL QB must do to win. And that's why Caleb Williams plays ahead of him." And that's the same line they said when they put Justin Fields ahead of Bagent last year, and ahem, THE BEARS FINISHED UNDER .500 WITH FIELDS, WHILE BAGENT WAS 2-2. I say this: Caleb WIlliams looks an awful lot like Justin Fields. He can make a busted play, but he doesn't look like a pocket passer. He doesn't look like he can read an NFL defense. He doesn't look like he can anticipate what an NFL open receiver looks like. In other words, from what I have seen so far, he looks like another 3 years of Justin "Loser" Fields.

Decades of experience say that QBs that play their rookie year have a horrible career BUT, there is a difference that might make this time different. Normally, a rookie QB plays when he's a high draft pick (which Caleb is also) but QBs are usually only taken early in the draft by terrible teams (which the Bears are not). Normally, Caleb would have been picked by the very worst team in the NFL. Thanks to a very lucky trade, he got drafted by a pretty good team. A team that also made some moves in the off season in addition to the 2 top 10 draft picks.
@robthames50652 ай бұрын
Payton Manning, Joe Burrow, Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, Ben Roethlisberger, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Russell Wilson all played either all or a majority of their rookie seasons. Problem is that the occasional Akili Smith, Tim Couch and Daniel Jones come along to create the perception that starting a qb as a rookie will ruin their careers.
