im gonna argue that theres nothing wrong with copying/biting styles, as long as it stays in the books. in all other forms of art, studying the greats and literally copying their work is one tried and true method of learning. as long as you are also practicing fundamentals so you can understand what the greats are actually doing. and i mean, why submit someone else's work for critique? its taking credit that's a problem. not the act itself

Nah the whole part of graffiti is that everyone has there own style
@beebop9712 Жыл бұрын
You take inspiration but you shouldn't copy and paste styles. Usually you put your own little quirks and personality in the. Piece
@francescasau5054 Жыл бұрын
@@sins.3003I think That he means something else: you can use the work of others to literally study how they applied fundamentals and techniques under their style. Is like when artists copy the classics to study their technique. It's like a more effective and intense form of observation in which you still pay attention to what's under it and start familiarizing with what can be done with those fundamentals. You don't simply copy paste something you don't understand... And also if you understand it, then you can do it your own way.

Guys like this just ruin the graffiti scene trying to argue that biting styles is some what acceptable you all need to get schooled properly and stop doing legal shit
@snarkparkmarklark3 ай бұрын
@@francescasau5054 yes this. the old masters had apprentices that made what basically are copies of their works, and people still do studies of things like the mona lisa to this day to learn basic fundamentals, because the old masters basically had a lot of these basics down pat. now does this mean do this all over the public and stuff? no keep it to your note/sketch/blackbook, they're called master studies not master pieces for a reason lol

hot take ik, but this hyper critical stuff kinda ruins graff for me, in my eyes graff is meant to be a janky art form where not everythings perfect, especially for throws and tags etc, w big wildstyle pieces i can see it but i have a dgaf attitude when it comes to sprawling my tags/throws on walls, altough it may not resonate w me, i can appreciate wat your doing and you 100% know what your talking about so keep it up!

I noticed there was critiques on the biting styles of the letters, but nothing on writing the same name as writers are already using, for instance, there is already a HERO crew. If someone is going to start writing a name it would be best to see if someone has already been writing it for years before you just jump in. Just a quick Google search before you begin. ✌️

You say that the tag at 5:30 has bad line control. I think I agree. However, I don't understand why I agree. A line is a line as long as you don't 'sketch' it, right? What makes a line good/bad? Feedback on the first piece was realy usefull by the way. I've been struggling with that exact issue.
@Theartistblock Жыл бұрын
This is a great question, so if we look at his lines, we can see a lack of not only consistency, but also a lack of precision in the strokes as well as from one tag to another. This right here shows us he doesnt have enough practice with lines just yet to get and maintain confident, precise, consistent, clean lines. Great example is his O, as well as the messy lines around the left of the E where it connects to the H, the bubbles around the letter having at least two points where you can see he started, then stopped, lifted the pen and restarted again. This is only to name a few give aways. Now because you're also struggling with lines let me give you some ways you might want to practice. To get better at lines lets understand that we need to practice drawing lines with all of our joints in our arm, individually and together. This means we want to learn to draw clean lines by using just our fingers, then learn to draw clean lines with just our wrists, then do the same for elbow and shoulder. Once you get the feeling of that you want to learn to draw clean lines with all the joints together. The reason each is important is because each joint is well suited for different sized lines, and different amounts of control over certain distances. You might need your fingers for small lines, but if you're doing a larger curve than you might need your elbow. Next up, to actually train your line work, draw some nice defined dots on a page, and then draw some shapes around the page. the goal is to treat the shapes like obstacles that are in your way, and your job is to connect the dots with 1 single smooth clean line. Depending how you place the shapes, you'll have to use some straight lines, and some curved all at different lengths. You can also draw some basic shapes and forms in pencil, then outline them as well as you can, ensuring your line is nice and of a consistent width all around. as you get better you'll learn to vary the width of a line, but thats something to work up to for the future.

where do we go to learn the basics?
@Theartistblock Жыл бұрын
id recommend starting with the elements of art, line shape form value space color and texture. You can find info on this in just about everywhere, like its kinda hard to find bad info on those topics. the elements of art are where the majority of your progress knowledge and skill will come from as this topic is the foundation of all things. Many books cover these topics super well and there are tons and tons of vids on the topics most are incredible videos. In all honesty, color is about the hardest of these to research just as it can be a confusing topic for someone just learning, but i highly recommend one of my favorite books "vision and art the biology of seeing". amazing book written by someone whos way too overqualified to write art books but im glad they did lol

I assumed he either put me down because i worked at the shop (this was common) or put me down to gain favor with my mentor.
