This is why i refill my bidness days before I need it so it will be ready the day I run out when my insurance circles around to paying for it again. Also, these days if you don't give them a few days heads up its hit or miss if they have certain asthma medicine since a lot of covid and post covid patients need it now. People need to take it easy on pharmacy staff. You aren't the only person they are helping.

My local Rite Aid is the slowest, most disorganized pharmacy I've ever used in 74 years if life. They mean well, bit recently I can no longer get my refills unless I call them three times. Each time, "oh yeah, here it is, I'm working on it." Or, "We had to order it." Meanwhile it's a week since I first called it in and it's something I can't skip. Lord help me if I'm out of refills. Add a fax from the pharm and a reminder call from me to my Primary and another 5 days to the wait. Here's why I don' t change pharmacies: drive-up window! 👍 😶

Once I did a med rec on a patient on about 20 meds and she knew them all well, what they're for, and when to take them, and kept track of everything! A rare exception. But usually it's like this, trying to sort through mispronunciations that aren't always all that close, or completely forgetting the name and what it's for, when they take it, etc.

Anyway….we have a list that we are using as a game for our holiday season called….What Medication Do You Need? Figure out the right answers and you get a prize :) So far we have a list of 10, we’re hoping to get fifteen individual drugs before December. My personal favorites so far are meatinon and aveon.

As a former pharmacy tech, your history contains every drug you’ve taken in the last year. My ex was a pharmacy tech, but knew so much he really needed to go to pharmacy school. After Organic Chem lab with no partners, I was done with pre-med. The best stories were ones where people wanted to get their pain meds and didn’t get their antibiotics. I am always nice to the pharmacy staff because they put up with a lot from me. I need a controlled medication and I feel like a junkie every month thanks to the laws. My PCP is an APRN. First, I have to make sure the pharmacy has it. Then, I call or text my nurse who takes it to the MD to call it in and I just have to hope and pray he gets it correct because they really don’t want to rewrite it. No one has ever been anything but polite to me. I’m thankful for the staff who puts up with everything.

I WISH my pharmacist WOULD talk like that. I would hang up the phone then go there to see if he was on something

Just remember - we deal with waaaaay worse from our own patients every day in pharmacy. If it were me talking to you I'd be more than happy to help with pronunciation, I'd never want you to feel ashamed for something that, really, is kinda complicated sometimes! You're just trying to help people and do your job well. Any good pharmacist can respect that.

I love it when patient come prepared with their medication list or brought all their meds. I also prefer patient who can tell me the ingredient name instead of brand name and the ones that can recall the doses. The ones I hate are the one that says yeah I'm on a blood pressure tablet but I don't know what it is... Or they would describe what it looks like.
