Fun Fact! In an interview, Will Wright, lead developer of the Sims 1, stated that this was his intention. In the early game, taking care of your Sim was difficult, but not impossible, and the catalogue of items for dealing with your Sim's needs paved a clear path forward. However, in the late game, it would turn out that maintaining all of these gadgets and gizmos would be a more difficult challenge than simply staying in the early game. It was satire on how modern materialism presents itself as the solution to our need for creature comforts, but has created a supply chain that over time requires more labour to maintain. Wright came up with the Sims after his house burnt down, so, uh, I'm going to stop, because this fact isn't fun anymore.

You just need to know what to do, and also arriving at the top of career is not always the best imo. It will change eventually in another career, and sometimes is even wors. There is a lvl 7 or 8 career (I think hacker?) It basically gives more time at home, and the card event is one that gives tons of money. I ended up avoiding a promotion because this is the best case scenario.

I always used cheats in TS1, and later decided to play cheatless in TS2, which was difficult but manageable. When I went back to TS1 without cheats, it was pretty much impossible. Needs and relationships decay insanely fast. Even being a celebrity doesn't pay that well compared to the effort your sim puts in. They're basically half-dead when they get home from Studio Town after doing 3 gigs (and they don't even get paid if you fail the minigame)

I don't remember Sims being so difficult when I used to play it, but watching these videos, I don't know how the hell I ever managed it. I guess because we didn't have anything to compare it to. The burglar stealing your suits of armor hurt! I did a black widow game where I built a gothic castle funded only by dead husbands. I remember the armor costing a husband each!

If you ever revisit this, might I suggest….kids? So as strange as it sounds, when I was younger I found the best way to get family friends was befriend a ton of kids. They’re much lower maintenance and I’ve always found them easier to befriend. Just go to a vacation lot and wait for them to show up, befriend them, and they’ll count. Best of luck! Try not to think of the implications and you’ll be fiiiiinnneeee!

The last time I downloaded this game, I realized how hard it was. Then I wondered how at the age of 9, I had somehow mastered this whole game, had a 5 star celebrity and even lived in Magic town because I had mastered magic too lmao. I do remember playing for HOURS and my dad getting mad at me for that. I also remember having to figure out the exact sequence you need to interact with people so they don't get annoyed with you so you could be friends lol I don't have the patience anymore.

Played sims as a kid, my parents came in one day to see me making a church for the town/village/area, which obviously needed to have a graveyard, to get all the gravestones and ghosts and such I moved 8 person families into lot which had a single building filled with flammable furniture and fireplaces, burning them all to death before moving their graves to the graveyard ready for the next victims to be moved in, I had about 40 graves outside.

The game just wasn't made with the idea that your sims leave their lot. It shows whenever they visit anything from Hot Date and onwards, and it's painful. Was even worse back then; you visit a spot, it took 2m+ to load in (it's about 5s now, yay for modern hardware), and your sims were miserable after a brief jaunter there.

if you hold ctrl+shift+c and enter "move_objects on" to enable moving of everything you can move the outdoor trash into the house and then the robot can still throw away trash with no door. And IIRC removing the mailbox prevents you from having to pay bills

This game is actually not that hard. Just form a routine. It may take 1-2 days to get mood up that’s when you throw a party and talk to people then you spend the next day getting your mood up again. You can’t do whatever, whenever. Also spend money on upgrades for your home it makes it easier to keep sims happy. Don’t forget to have a dedicated bathroom too!

Yeah taking care of babies is the hardest thing in Sims 1. Grab your choice of caffeine. Lock the game to speed 1, put a bed in a room with the baby, and have your pinky over the pause button to quickly wake a sim up and order it to feed the damn thing. Next 72 minutes are going to be you microing your sims.
