The problem, as per usual, is caused by giving control of this to the local authorities, who insist on applying the standards set for permanent residents. War refugees are just looking for shelter and protection temporarily. Their care should be under the control of emergency services such as the army, red cross and other voluntary organisations. We will be waiting forever for the local authorities to get anything done. That was obvious from the start. I personally know of two properties offered over 6 months ago and nobody has come back about them yet!

My best friend currently has two daughters waiting to be housed. One has five children, the other has four. How is it possible that you have five cases of homelessness coming out of one person's experience, and yet ye can say, "invite people from other countries and we'll be able to help the people coming in and the people already here in parallel."? You haven't the resources, or you're mismanaging them, and ye know it! I was born in this country and living here over forty years. Years ago, I was a student sharing a flat when one of my family members was homeless with her kids and I was just after coming out of living in a homeless hostel myself. I didn't know where I was going to be living once that semester of college was over, so I wasn't in a position to house her.

It's not racist to say we are full, it's not an opinion it's a fact. The US could do a lot more, and also Canada, and the UK. We can't bring anymore as we don't have any accommodation left even for Irish people. I feel sorry for the innocent Ukrainian people caught up in Putins terror. But the best thing the Irish government could do now is not to give them substandard accommodation, but to put pressure on other governments to do their share.

David Bamford You have got a cheek suggesting the UK could do more, we get more illegal migrants coming across the channel which you don't get. We also take in the Ukrainian people, our hotels are crammed full, our NHS is giving free treatment, plus housing, food to the migrants before the English people get any help for the poor. We can't sustain the constant influx or the cost of this crisis. You need to blame your so called EU for having open borders and not supporting its member states. The UK has done more to help the Ukraine than the EU.

And I definitely empathise with you about what the UK has done for migrants and the battles you face with illegals etc. You have done so much for us Irish when we came over to try and find work, and may I humbly express my heartfelt appreciation.
