Cally, I am an old man, attempting to play clarinet since 1963. I've had some professional success, but family and job and other avocational pursuits got in the way. Now, about to retire for 2nd time, and playing the misery stick again. Back to Yamaha clarinets, real reeds, and trying to correct bad habits from practically zero fundamental training. Your videos have been very helpful in re-learning the instrument. Keep up the great work!! Tom, NLR AR

Congratulations! 10 year anniversary is a huge milestone. I'm super happy for you. I remember my ten year KZbin anniversary back in July 2012 (technically I joined in March 2006 but I didn't make videos so I don't count that), it was an amazing feeling. Hopefully I'm still around in July 2032 for my 20 year and hopefully you're still around in June 2034 for your 20 year special. Nice to meet another person who's been here for ages, making music just for the fun of it. I gotta admit, I miss old KZbin but I'm thankful for the friends and experience I have now.

I have been playing clarinet for quite some time and it has been going well until recently I have been dropping out a bit more and more due to pain in the lip due to the lower teeth no longer lining up so nicely. What can you recommend for protecting the lower lip. I now use cigarette leaves rolled up over the teeth but ... That's not so nice to use. And the dentist cannot help me I am too old I think like my teeth. What is your advice to protect the lip . Hi from Europe ( Belgium )

I have some friends that use a couple different things. One is waterproof medical tape. Another is the wrapping from chewing gum (some kind of waxy paper that does not deteriorate). Others have used denture wax. When I need extra help, I prefer waterproof medical tape. I hope that helps!

Why do you put the ligature screws in front of the mouthpiece? Does it matter?

Depends on the kind of ligature. Some are designed for screws to be on front, some on back, and some can do either!
