Gods it's been months since I picked up my flute The thought of playing/practicing causes anxiety. I should save this for later.

This will be a nice slow start to your practice so no pressure! Just do as much as you can and enjoy making sounds!

@@LanceSuzuki Thanks for this! I revisited it today. It was pretty easy and the slow calming pace 4was soothing.

I'm sorry you had bad experiences and felt pressure playing. I'm the opposite. My flute is my go to for anxiety management. The problems drift away and create beauty and peace ❤. I especially love this video because it is so tranquil

That was so lovely! I’m struggling with a migraine today, so I mostly closed my eyes, listened, and felt more relaxed. I am looking forward to trying this when my head is more cooperative. How do you end the notes so beautifully? Can you explain what you do please? 👋
@LanceSuzukiАй бұрын
Thanks, Suzanne! I was hoping that some might enjoy just listening. Sorry about your migraine and I hope you will also enjoy playing along later. To end notes, I visualize tapering off the lips as I “paint” the sound off the flute…almost like a brush stroke. It’s important to keep the air moving to avoid sagging tone and pitch. Of course, it all comes down to practicing the timing. I hope that helps.

Love this exercise Lance. Really relaxes the mind with the background music. This will definitely help with my breathing which is not very deep.
@LanceSuzukiАй бұрын
Awesome! Try to focus on finding a deeper stretch with each breath and be sure to relax your core as you inhale. A lot of us hold tension there. ❤️

Thank you. Beautiful music. Is it possible to get a link to the background track to play along with it?
@LanceSuzukiАй бұрын
Thanks so much! 🙏 The background music was improvised so there’s not music for it. Feel free to improvise along!

I really wanna start learning flute but my school won’t let me join band because I don’t have a instrument and I can’t really afford one but you videos have been helping me know at least the basics on how to hold a flute and fingering too. Do you know people or places to get cheap flutes?
@Kilian-ce2wgАй бұрын
Lance, is there a flute online course that you could recommend for a complete beginner? I know live lessons would be more beneficial, but I would like to dabble around by myself first so that I don't have to deal with two completely new experience at the same time (social anxiety + first time touching the instrument). My anxiety would the through the roof 😂😂 Thank you for the video and all you do on here!

Thank you! Can you please help me? I'm playing Carol Of The Bells in Band but I can't read any of the high octave notes. Like I just don't know how to read them and I also can't read anything like the low octave. I also don't know the fingerings. Can you help me? Thanks!
@LanceSuzukiАй бұрын
I love Carol of the Bells! 🔔🎶 It might be good to count the leger lines and write in a few note names. I don’t really have any videos for music reading. However, I do have one for flute fingerings here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqbYd2Rnlt-baaMsi=37U6TvfF-bL6agku Good luck!

I understand that the demands of the repertoire make nostril inhalation impractical but is there no concern among flautists that research suggests that mouth breathing is troublesome?
@LanceSuzukiАй бұрын
All air must pass through the mouth to play the flute. I believe that creating an open, relaxed space in the mouth starts at the inhale. This openness is harder to achieve through a nasal breath. But, yes, from a practical perspective it would be very difficult to meet the demands of the instrument through only nasal breathing. Thanks for watching!

I would have loved this video even more without the distracting background music…. It feels hectic and unconnected to my ears.
