Friendly reminder that putting in the work is worthwhile, even if our success doesn't look impressive to others. I'm a 40 something woman who probably looks like she's "going through the motions" at the gym. I'm actually following the plan from my physical therapist to maintain my function in the face of a degenerative genetic disease. Professionally, by contrast, I'm able to put the big plates on my bar. We're all climbing different mountains -- at the end of my ten years physically, success is limiting the ground I lose. At the end of my ten years professionally, I expect to have travelled many many miles. In both realms, I'm trying to move in the direction of traction, but in one I started on an ice field, whereas the other is on a rubberized track.

September 2024 - to live a deep life, you must be good at something valuable - to get really good at something, you need to spend 10 year grinding away. All success happens after 10 years. And it’s not just derping around. It’s really hard work for 10 years. - try a bunch of different things in that lane you want to pursue (ie: if author, then, different genres, etc. but once you find something, lock in and go all out) - you need to cut out everything else, all distractions in order to be successful - he goes over his planning system, with trello - a lot of accomplishments take time. Slow productivity mindset

I just started a brand new career and had my first “real day.” It’s overwhelming and just feels so big. It’s not a culture I’m used to. But it’s literally my first day:) I’m reminding myself constantly how much time and experience it will take for me to start getting it down. I love the idea of outlasting everyone (not as the enemies, but just the veterans are usually experts)

Shit eater here. I’m currently on my 7th year. However, I’ve “known” Ryan since his obscure Robert Greene days. He fucking worked Jack. He’s done a lot of things in the direction of his current mountain. It wasn’t a straight road but it was inspiring to see his ascent. On another note, I remember meeting Slash at a hotel bar once, and I dont really get star struck or was ever a huge GnR fan, but he told me be really appreciative of the years getting there, because once your there it’s like doing 50 pull-ups to break a record and then the audience asking you to “hold it in place” on the 50th. So I suppose it just become a new struggle of maintaining this “mountain.” Thats always interesting. But I can honestly attest to Ryan’s success. Dude, he really really walked the talk.

While I was working in IT, I volunteered on micro enterprise projects. I studied Development Economics part-time and eventually took a lower paying job in my chosen field, and later freelanced as an organisational development consultant. I was sponsored by various funders to travel to about 20 countries in Africa and Europe. I then switched to academia, researching the use of ICTs in micro enterprise development, specifically in the tourism industry, and traveled some more.

What made this so powerful and inspirational to me is that Cal used these real-life highly accomplished people (and what they did) to extract these principles. This wasn't just theory, but what real people actually did, so it's credible and I trust the principles. Also encouraging is that it doesn't need to take 10 years, but about 10 years' worth of continuous, focused effort. All right, time to get into Michael Crichton mad-man mode!

As a student in a New Zealand city in the 80's we lived above a pub that catered mostly for alcoholics. So it opened about 8 or 9 AM and closed about 6 PM depending on who was still around and awake. Hence not noisy at all for evening study. It had internal stair access to the bar and we would head down just before closing and grab a pint to take back up to have with our dinner. Sadly, that place has been knocked over and gawdy car sales yard now exists there. Ah the memories.

I haven’t watched this video yet, but it’s funny that you bring up Ryan Holiday because I was going to suggest that you make bite-size content like he does so we can digest your information and small bites. And then when we need a deeper dive, we’ll watch one of your longer videos on the subject. I find myself trying to watch more than one of your videos, but it’s just a lot of information and you can’t click through or you’ll get lost. Ryan Holiday does great with giving us the bite-size version of his content even if a lot of it is repeat information helps us remember his key points and then we can deep dive into more information

It seems like many Cal followers got cocky with their "Hyper productivity" mindset. stay humble, asking for shorter format videos isn't an insult and isn't bad. some people can't find the time to watch an entire video end-to-end and still want to enjoy Cal's wonderful content.

Why not watch the longer video in parts? That way, you get better content, with more explanation, and can break it down over time.
@lthinks83112 ай бұрын
@@Shirgho I suggested to cut the video into smaller parts so you can watch one or two at a time, depending on how available you are. not to take away from the content or shorten the total show. its like watching a TV show, you have episodes you can catch up with at your time, and you can binge when you'd like. sometimes you just don't have time to watch a whole movie...

@pointlessmachine2 ай бұрын
Cal has mentioned that he doesn't read the comments section at all, and he probably doesn't care too much about views or clicks on here as well. I know people who prefer short-form content will /want/ him to make shorter videos, but please understand that 1) this goes against his own beliefs that we should be getting used to longer form content in general and 2) a huge portion of his followers prefer this format already, and Cal (i think) would rather conform to his follower base's wants, and of course to align with the beliefs/ideas he shares. So as some people have suggested here already, you can choose to enjoy this podcast in small chunks (I'm grateful for the team to have timestamps in the video which we can use to pick what we like) in your own time by coming back to certain timestamps when you are ready. Or you can also look for short form content that summarizes Cal's bigger ideas; I've seen a number of such content on many sites including KZbin. Even this channel compiles shorter videos sometimes. But of course, the best suggestion is to stick with these long form content in shorter chunks because that can eventually let you get used to the longer times. And if you're interested enough in Cal's content, then I'm sure you'll appreciate what that practice can do for you. Let's also remember that this is a podcast; there are many more out there that range from 2-3hrs so it does baffle me sometimes how people can't forgive this for being an hour long, but Lex Friedman's episodes for example usually take 2-3hrs long and they have 10x+ more views than this channel! I wish you well.
@lthinks83112 ай бұрын
@@pointlessmachine I appreciate your response, and you are correct in your points. It's not that I can keep concentrated, I just usually don't have the long time blocks to listen carefully to Cal. Just thought to suggest shorter form content and many people attacked me for no reason, but I appreciate your response and honesty. Wish you well too my friend!
