Calor gas dilemma for caravan motorhomes and camping, but we have some options, we show what you will need if changing to the bigger calor gas bottles, but also look at flo gas if you need to stay with the smaller gas bottles. Flogas offer a 3.9kg gas bottle and also a 4.5kg gas bottle, both flo gas bottles use the same regualtor connections as calor gas.

Your advice is most welcome. About to go Europe for 10 weeks where the different gas bottles and standards are a nightmare. I will probably go for 2 of the smaller gasflo bottles, carrying one in the car to keep my nose weight down. We will also take a single induction hob and a small airfryer as backup as we always go for electric hookup.

Just fill your Safefill tank at most Gas stations . Just get conector .

We often see campers being checked over by customs and douanes. You are only permitted to carry gas bottles in a properly vented locker.

I have invested in a Safefill, plus a 10kg gaslight from homebase. I got rid of calor ages ago. Yes it's true that a lot of places are not selling LPG at the pump anymore, but it's still there to be found if You do Your homework, and use the map app when You are on Your travels. A lot of Morrisons sell it, and are on board with the safefill refilling, because a lot of places don't let You fill them.

NOT a good option. If you read up a little more, you will discover that ALL LPG filling points are to be phased out in the UK by the end of 2024. That’s next year. Filling points on that app are dropping like flies.

Going the opposite way, updating our caravan inside and removing all the gas and pipes underneath. For battery & induction hob maybe a microwave too. Gas is just too heavy the fridge, heater too bulky. Obviously batteries wires and actually producing enough power is something. But think I’m have worked out what’s right for us. Thanks Sam.

Anyway got too have fun and enjoy your own caravan and feel happy with it. Hopefully but March get a few bit done of it, too test and work out issues that are bound too come about.

In Canada you buy an empty canister then you refill the actual canister at a petrol station. Which are normally manned by several attendants. A bit like we had back in the 70s.

I have a 7kg for normal use and a 6kg reserve connected by a "T" piece, when my 7kg runs out I switch over to my 6kg untill I get a replacement 7kg. I will now be getting a Flogas small Bottle as a reserve.

I moved over from calor to flogas some years ago simply because it's so much cheaper and for me easier to get hold of, also calor was always hit or miss if the local stockest would have it in stock.

Note Flogas propane 3.9kg bottles are slightly bigger (higher) than calor ones. Bought one last year when couldn't find any calor refills but unfortunately it won't fit in my Romahome gas locker. Deciding now whether to attempt to reconfigure gas locker or look for something else, maybe all electric?

They do tend to use about 4 different bottles from what I have heard, all slightly different sizes for the 3.9kg and 4.5kg.

Calor need to make it clear how easy or hard they propose to make the changeover. Will we need to take the old bottle to a main depot for exchange or will we be able to do it at a normal retail outlet? Will the original hire agreement be required, many folk have had bottles for years and the documentation lost ages ago. Will it be a straight exchange or will there be an additional deposit or exchange fee payable on top of the cost of the gas?

We just showed the retailer the exchange statement on Calor website they eventualy just changed it for a full 6kg from a lite on empty.

We are looking to replace our 2 berth with Pursuit 430-4 or Modena, but now worried that we won't be able to get gas bottle which fits into the tiny locker. Reading that the Flo Gas 3.9 kg is taller and does not fit in the Bailey small lockers.

You can get a 6kg bottle in, this will last you a long time unless always off grid camping, so wouldn't worry about having the smaller bottle.

I recently told somebody who has a 1990 VW campervan, That I would pick up some Camping Gaz cannisters, apparently the fitting has changed. And it's like incredibly complex. it looked like C500 coleman cannister but was blue and had some kind of outer frame on can, with screw in attachment. not sure.

If space is a problem for gas bottles either look at Gaslow R67 2.7kg Refillable Cylinder 1 with Level Gauge, or Safefill Small 5kg LPG Refillable Gas Cylinder. I know that initially it's expensive, but overtime you will end up saving money by refilling & getting the cost of buying "Your bottle" back, instead of renting the bottle. I have 2 of the larger Safefill lightweight refillable bottle, and all the adapters for Europe. For LPG/propane @79pence (Jan 2023) a litre from my local petrol station with LPG/Auto-gas. I am well on my way of recovering the initial outlay. Also you can top up before your trip, and not have the worry running out during your trip with half empty bottle at the start. I know a lot of people are changing over to refillable bottles because there's been a shortage of Calor bottles (and needed an empty to exchange (1 for 1)), and the cost these days of exchanging 6Kg or 7Kg bottles are going through the roof. May be Mark, if you could put refillable bottles and adapters on your Amazon shop page if you could get a decent price.

Its 2023. Get a nice light Safefill bottle . Then yu can get an 11 kg and fill up at most Petrol stations in thexUK and Europe . Stops filling like an LPG car so no problems . You just need yr continental lpg connections depending where you are going . CZ has different .

The propane won't freeze as quickly so a lot of people use if all year around camping. But you can use either.

No good mate. The 3.9 Calor propane has a folding handle the Flowgas handle is rigid and upright. It will not fit into the gas locker of my VW T4 AutoSleeper Trooper as the non folding handle makes it too tall. Altering the locker is quite a major job. Gaz seems to be the one way to go or perhaps refilling at petrol stations supplying gas. At the moment I have two full Calor bottles but am equipped with a regulator and Gaz bottle for France.

You can attach either, but propane has a lower boiling point which is better for outdoor use. It won't freeze as quickly when the temperature drops.

They are 2 different pressures. That's why 3.9 kilo orange has less gas in the same size bottle as the blue bottle at 4.5 kilo bottle. The orange regulator is for the highest pressure. And you can have more gas in the blue bottle as it a lower pressure . The two gases are different. But you can use either on you appliance. As the regulator regulates the gas pressure. That's why the orange propane is cheaper as it has less gas in the bottle. And blue butane is dearer and has more gas in the bottle so 2 different gases at 2 different pressures. So long you got correct regulator on the bottle. You ok. Note very cold weather the butane ( blue) can freeze. The orange propane will work better at low temps. Hope this info help people.

if you can afford it get a small safefill refillable bottle, will pay for itself. I've got a 7kg one costs me 6 pounds ush to fill up. and the joke of it is its calor lpg at most of the garages your filling with Lpg is propane not butane BTW.

Hmmm. Except flogas have also discontinued new 3.9kg bottles, so unless you already have an empty 3.9kg bottle specified on their list of accepted brands to exchange (which excludes Calor) this is not a fix. LPG is already being phased out fast on forecourts in the UK with a deadline set for zero filling stations by the end of next year, with a ban on all petroleum based fuels (including LPG) within a few years from now. Don’t want to scare anyone, but seriously people need to wake up to what is happening right in front of their noses.

Not quite correct. The 4.5kg Flogas butane actually has the 21mm clip on connection so you will need the clip on adapters or regulator
