I didn't about caltech before I watched the big bang theory, in asia caltech isn't that famous like harvard or MIT, but after searching and reading many forums, now I know that caltech is an amazing university, specially in science, math and engineering program.

You didn't miss anything. When I was an undergrad at Caltech in the late 90's I had several friends attempt suicide. My best friend and I both transferred out. The job prospects out of Caltech are underwhelming for the hell they put you through.

Love that Charlotte sectional on Karsyn's wall. Awesome to earn a PPL while a Tech undergrad. Nice video. The place has evolved somewhat since I got out in '76 (Blacker). Finally found time for pilot license in '82. Still flying!

Haha I had such a wrong impression about the Caltech student. I pictured an orderly and all-white house with minimalist design and everything in place. Everyone sitting in the table with posture and formal clothing. It's funny to see how unlike that it actually is.

I believe they prioritize more on education than the “lifestyle appearance”! Tbh I feel like it’s really homey, and it makes sense that smart people don’t have time to worry about the cuteness of their rooms 😂

Caltech moving to Malibu. When I was there in the early 70's I heard rumor (later confirmed) that a developer offered the land where Pepperdine U is, to Caltech & Hughes Research Center. The idea was to create a "Silicone Beach" or "Punched Cards beach then" in Malibu. The faculty voted down. Too bad... the view from Pepperdine is simply breath taking.

Yes you can if you are an outstanding student! Last year CalTech offered as an average 40000$ as financial aid for international students

I used to work here. There’s a lot of things that go on here the really would concern parents. The student themselves told me they wouldn’t recommend the housing. Ask about the bartenders at the house parties

There's a lot of friction between people who work there and the students. In general, the people who work there are "concerned" about student life, and the students say that without the houses they wouldn't have the support they need to survive the meat-grinder that is Caltech.

There WAS one alley - Dabney upper 7, if I remember right, that was all graffitied like in "Real Genius". Almost everything got "renovated" several years back, and I doubt graffiti would be allowed in the hallways. Dabney had a reputation as the house for druggies in the past, and their members had about the lowest graduation rates. I have NO idea what it's like these days, but supposedly Caltech is managing to graduate just about everybody these days, so I imagine things have changed.

Going by the fact that this is a university that's heavy on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math I'm going to presume that it's mostly non-religious since the more educated you are in these fields the more likely you are to not believe in any religion or deity. But you will find religious people anywhere you go so there are definitely exceptions.

@tonymontana7263 Let me put it this way. I was at Caltech in the early 80s and was active in Caltech Christian Fellowship. JUST IN PAGE HOUSE there were about 6 people active in that group and 3 or 4 other people that went to church regularly but weren't active in that fellowship - that I know of. Just because the top establishment biologists are atheists don't assume the great majority scientists are.

They really should have shown the newer houses as well. Avery house and Bechtel are newer and, from what I have seen, are much "cleaner". Avery is part of the "house" system, Bechtel is not.
