Caltrans HQ-On the Job with Caltrans-Winter Operations

Ever wonder what Caltrans workers do to build, maintain and manage our highway system here in the Golden State? Well, now you have a chance to find out by watching "On the Job with Caltrans," a new video series that focuses on the people who work at Caltrans.
The premiere episode of this new series features Caltrans District 3's Sierra Snow Fighters. See and hear what it's like to work a chain control checkpoint, drive a snow plow or even save a wayward kitten. Meet the staff who not only battle the elements but face the constant danger of distracted motorists, all while keeping our highways open for the motoring public.

Hey, I have a lot of respect for these guys. Not only for working for 8-12hr shifts in the rain/snow but also for helping motorists. I'm from Sacramento, I LOVE going to play in snow. One night at I drove to Lake Tahoe, excited to play in the snow. I got there, parked and left my lights on for too long. My car battery ended up dying because I forgot to leave the car running... Man, it was horrible! Being stuck in the middle of nowhere! My friend and I tried pushing the car close to the main road but there was too much snow for one person to push while the other steer. We walked to the highway and luckily Caltrans were out working at 2 in the morning. They sent someone to give us a jump and we got our car going. I learnt my lesson and I'm very thankful for Caltrans & the employee that helped us! Be safe out there!

contractors design subcontractors come and build Caltrans operators come to maintain big difference how about we put back into engineering and operating and building into the Caltrans way and save the state some money and give us workers a raise... Oh wait that's right that's the Caltrans way
