it's called a fanned-fret guitar...so the frets are actually wider on the bass strings...apparently allows for more accurate tuning

Don's guitar was custom made by a Luthier, it has "Fanned Frets" which are designed to more accurately hit notes.. Pretty cool, Andy McKee has one too made by a Canadian Luthier, and I freaked out the first time I saw him live here in Topeka playing his "whack" guitar :)

fanned frets - each string is at an optimum length for its gauge, meant to be the best for tone, wealth of harmonics, string tension etc. Lots of info online if you want to know more

I believe its a Greenfield guitar that has fanned frets - just like the one the Andy Mckee uses. Don and Andy and Calum are these guys from Candyrat records who get these amazing guitars!

fanned frets, allows for more natural finger positioning as well as improved tuning with the slanted bridge.
