When Jesus healed the paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda, He proved He was the ultimate Healer-but not everyone saw Him that way. In this teaching, we learn that this was the point in Jesus' ministry that most of the Jewish nation formally set itself against Him, and the opposition would only continue to mount until they finally succeeded in crucifying Him.
This teaching is from our series 43 John - 2016 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

Thank you 🙏🏻 I am so interested how the Samaritan people’s history and how they thought that Mt Gerizim became their holy mountain.
@JohnAdams-zh4tz
@JohnAdams-zh4tz 3 ай бұрын
Biblical Tradition: The Samaritans accept only the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) as their scripture. They interpret passages in these books as indicating that Mount Gerizim was the original holy place chosen by God. For instance, in Deuteronomy 11:29 and 27:12, Mount Gerizim is mentioned as a mountain of blessing. Religious Continuity: The Samaritans believe that worship on Mount Gerizim dates back to the time of Joshua, who they claim established it as the center of worship after the Israelites entered the Promised Land. They reject the legitimacy of worship in Jerusalem, which they see as a later innovation.

I can’t help but think, why would the man stay at the pool for so long if he had not witnessed anyone being healed by it?
@JohnAdams-zh4tz
@JohnAdams-zh4tz 3 ай бұрын
Good Question. Doesn’t say that no one was ever healed. Maybe healings occurred. Man’s faith and hope: if there was no cure possible at the hands of man. Maybe he saw this as his only hope. Note: it may also be (just conjecture) that this place was a place where charity (money) was given to people who could not earn a living.

@@JohnAdams-zh4tzThis was a good question, I didn’t really even remember writing this lol. I appreciate the response, but that question still stands pretty firm. According to scripture, he really wanted in that pool but couldn’t because of how many people were pushing through to get in. After watching that for as long as he was, he had to have been watching people get healed, or else he would have lost interest in that pool. The only explanation I see to make sense is that people may have been being healed.

@@Glory2God- Oops - misread your question. Should have had coffee first. I agree with your view. For anybody that doesn’t think people were healed - - At the time Jews viewed calamities as being due to sin. - if looked down upon, where else could he go. No hospitals, no known cures, others in bad shape (community) - with no job, this could be the place where handicapped (sick) people could ask for money. But again - I view your view as correct and the primary reason for being at Bethesda.

Dear Pastor Skip, I don't know if you read comments so long after your your teaching is published, and I'm writing only now. Your teachings are great, but on several occasions you have come across as prejudiced against 3rd world peoples, as in this sermon, or persons of different belief systems. Many times, these persons have not chosen to be habitants of their countries, and sometimes belief systems are ingrained, inculcated into them as children and "there has been no one to help them out of it". Thank you

Can someone explain how John 6.51 is not a blood ritual / satanic ?
@JohnAdams-zh4tz
@JohnAdams-zh4tz 3 ай бұрын
Context of Sacrifice: In the Christian context, Jesus’ reference to his flesh and blood is symbolic of his sacrificial death on the cross. This is understood as an act of love and redemption, offering himself to atone for the sins of humanity. It aligns with the Jewish tradition of sacrificial offerings, which were intended to restore the relationship between God and people. Life-Giving Focus: Jesus’ discourse in John 6 is centered on the promise of eternal life and spiritual sustenance. The focus is on the life-giving relationship with Jesus, who provides spiritual nourishment and eternal life through faith in him, contrasting sharply with any notion of death or darkness typically associated with satanic rituals.

THE POINT JESUS IS MAKING IS THAT THE MANS FAITH IN KNOWING THAT GOD WILL HEAL HIM MATTERED MORE TO HIM THAN THE LENGHT OF TIME IT ACTUALLY TOOK HIM TO REACH THE POND TO BE HEALED..... IN ADDITION TO THAT JESUS SIMULTANEOUSLY SHOWED THAT EVERYONE WAS CONCERNED THAT REACHING THE POOL WILL HEAL YOU...WHEN THE POINT TO BE MADE WAS THAT YOUR FAITH IN GOD IS WHAT WILL HEAL YOU...NOT SO MUCH THE POOL...THE POOL IS SIMPLY THE MEDIUM....AND THE FINAL THING IS EVERYONES CONCERN WAS TO HEAL HIMSELF!! AND NOT BE CONCERNED WITH THE HEALING OF OTHERS WHO ARE NOT IN THE POSITION TO BE HEALED....SO ALMIGHTY GOD SHOWED THE PPL THAT EVEN WITHOUT ENTERING THE POOL THIS MAN WAS HEALED.....WE HAVE MUCH TO LEARN AS A PEOPLE ON OUR JOURNEY TO UNDERSTANDING OUR KING.

I don't buy the thing about "older manuscripts don't mention the angel". Regardless of what text you use, all are copies of copies. I believe the KJV is correct and the text it was taken from got this right where the others left it out by error. Why ? Because of this question. What is supernatural about the water moving from the north pool to the south pool that would cause people to be miraculously healed ? NOTHING ! However, an angel stirring the water is a supernatural intervention which absolutely could result in miraculous healing.

If some story has a form of Godliness (talking about God/Jesus) but denies the Power of God , then it's a lie, and we must turn away 2 TIMOTHY 3:5 Jesus was sent by God to save the world from sin 1John 4 :14. This video teaches that Jesus will lose some sinners eternally, so it denies the power of the ALL Mighty declaring that God is unable to do His will = " God wills all men be saved and to come to a full knowledge of Jesus " 1Timothy 2 : 4 Love NEVER fails 1Corinthians 13 :8

1 Tim 2:4 Interpretation: The verse expresses God’s earnest desire for all people to be saved, reflecting His benevolence and love for humanity. Implication: This desire does not imply that God will override human free will. God’s wish is for all to be saved, but the actual outcome depends on individual choices.

the Sabbath day is a gift from God to man. His commandment says Remember because He knew we would forget. You make the Sabbath sound like something satan sent you but it is not so. its a delightful day of rest spent with The Lord. It is very clear that the commandment tells us not to labour on that day. You always throw in the legalistic view when you try to sway sway your audience Better you stick to scripture.

Skip speaks about the hypocrisy of people now who boast about keeping the sabbath and look down on those that don’t want to be under legalistic practices. Those people like to pick and choose what aspects of the sabbath they like and don’t like and then try to force those practices on others. The sabbath was a commandment given to the children of Israel under the old covenant. It’s like it was then like it is now when Jesus was trying to push back the legalistic burden the Pharisees forced on the people. We’re under the new covenant. Grace. Those of us who believe in Him. Jesus is Lord and is Lord of the sabbath. I think he gets the say on whether we’re to keep it or not. God bless you.

Fulfillment of the Law: Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17). As the Messiah, He embodies and brings to completion the true meaning of the Law, including the Sabbath. His works on the Sabbath reveal His divine identity and mission to bring salvation and healing. Healing on the Sabbath: Jesus frequently healed on the Sabbath to illustrate that doing good and saving life takes precedence over ritualistic Sabbath restrictions. For instance, in Luke 13:10-17, He heals a woman on the Sabbath and explains that it is appropriate to do so, highlighting the Sabbath’s purpose as a time for liberation and blessing. Conflict with Religious Leaders: Jesus’ actions on the Sabbath often led to conflicts with religious leaders who held a more rigid interpretation of Sabbath laws. By performing works of healing and mercy on the Sabbath, Jesus challenged their understanding and underscored the importance of compassion and the intent behind the Law. Matthew 12:8: “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”Mark 2:27-28: “Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’”Luke 6:5: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.’”
