Great ride that paved the way for Huss to create the Breakdance

Love this type of ride and rode the one at Cedar Point recently and it’s very fun and for the next Flat Ride Friday I suggest you cover the Rock-O-Plane

Many years ago, Great Adventure (perhaps before they were acquired by Six Flags) had a Calypso. I do miss that ride (and those days). Haven't seen one recently, to say the least. Admittedly, though, it's basically an inclined Scrambler with fancier seats. Wouldn't stop me from riding it if, say, Knoebels ever got one.

Ah yes the calypso. I rode this a bunch. I still do! It's every year the the Oktoberfest at the "Oide Wiesn" (Old Oktoberfest) section. Still a great ride. There was a rebuilt Calypso with lifting plattform and gondolas with fixed roations, that could look in the normal direction, inwards and backwards called "Raggae" owned by german showman Winter. The footage you showed is surprisingly shaky. Btw a small tip to improve the image quality: Upscale your renders to 1440p. You'll get the better codec YT offers and improves your footage quality by a ton.

Calypso has been one of my favorite rides at Cedar Point since my first visit there as a kid in the early '90s. Great spinning ride!

Thanks for making these videos, loved Flat Ride of the Week and this definitely felt like a worthy successor to it. Also loved to see you covered some rides that are quite popular in the UK (the Miami & Remix). Looking forward to the next season and also hoping for a revised video on the history of the Waltzer.

I think that’s the one that used to be at the Kursaal amusement park in Southend-on-Sea. I remember riding it there, in its standard form. It seemed very old, even then.

I just wanted to updated my comment, only to find that it´s not here anymore. It contained some additional info including KZbin-links. Strange that! Anyway: The company that built the distinct ride vehicles is called Ihle, not Bruchsaal (which is the name of the town, where they are located).

Calypso is one of my favorite flats at Cedar Point! I never knew the similarity to scramblers was by design. Also, curiously, I had to measure CP's Calypso platform recently and I only measured an 11º grade.

Fiddlers Fling at Six Flags Great America (my home park) is one of the more bonkers Calypsos as it’s literally feels like a Tilt A Whirl on cocaine. Also it opened with the park in 1976 so it’s almost 50 years old.😊

Spinovater @ Canada's Wonderland, Calypso @ the old Myrtle Beach Pavilion, and the former Crazy Quilts/Sidewinder at Six Flags Darien Lake all have/had a larger capacity than the ones like at Cedar Point with 5 arms with 5 cars on each and it seemed like those had a bit steeper angle, but I could be wrong. Crazy Quilts was one of my favorite rides at Darien Lake, it seemed like they took it out for no good reason.
@EJWizard4 ай бұрын
Darien Lake had a version of it called Crazy Quilt. I think they took it out about the time they put the wood roller coaster Predator in. 1990ish?
@markvolpe23054 ай бұрын

The German ride car builder is “Gebrüder Jhle Bruchsal” which is Ihle Brothers of Bruchsal. I believe Jhle is the correct German spelling (and what we see on all those rides they built cars for) but on the Internet I keep seeing it spelled “Ihle” which more easily gets you to the correct pronunciation…in German, the “J” has more of a “y” or “i” sound.
@julianelehmann3 ай бұрын
Yeah, using the "J" glyph there is an old-school stylistic choice. "Jhle" would not be pronounceable in German. Capital I is written like that in the cursive usual in the 1950s-1990s too - I believe this is about disambiguation; avoiding straight "just a vertical line". Compare the European way of writing 1 and 7 (1 with a slanted serif, exactly like this here, 7 with a horizontal bar and an additional short horizontal stroke in the middle to disambiguate).
