2 things. 1. As of right now, Jarquez's legacy is not that of pettway or CAP. Those 2 dudes both had incredible years in 2014 and 2016. Auburn fans forget too easily. Pettway had a 4 game stretch where he averaged like 150 yards. CAP had 1600+ yards in 2014. Jarquez hasnt done any of that yet. 2. Auburn did win 10 games in 2017. We were 10-2 regular season
@camg1145
@camg1145 3 ай бұрын
Kind of an unfair argument for CAP. We don’t know what Jarquez could have done in an offense that was that run-centric with a much better dual threat QB. Not to mention, that defense was abysmal. The offense was on the field a lot that year because the defense would just get bombed on all the time. That’s why we put up 40+ in Tuscaloosa and still lost. Can’t argue with Pettway. He was a dog and that defense was pretty decent

@@camg1145 you have to put some respect on 1600+ yards when jarquez hasn't even broken 1000. 1600 is the 3rd highest in program history. And I'm not going to take away from a player for playing in a good system for them

I have heard the Thorne had a great year at MSU his first year but he hasn't been nearly as good because of the weapons around him. He actually had both his wrs back his second year at MSU and his numbers still dropped significantly.

This is true but the so called Auburn fans that only see orange and blue will tell you it’s the receivers fault and never his!! And they will do it again this year even though real football players and fans knows where the problem lies and it’s NOT the receivers 🦅

Or maybe these comments aren't from "real" football players or fans and just casual observers who think that everything lives and dies with the QB and no one outside of them matters. So "both his wide receivers back" isn't accurate. Jalen Nailer was drafted. Jayden Reed was in for 59 plays from scrimmage in 2022 and he caught 55 passes. Those are absolutely ridiculous numbers. Payton Thorne was connecting with this dude at an almost unheard of rate. There clearly wasn't any issues with him delivering the football. Keon coleman barely contributed at all in 2021. In 2022 his numbers skyrocketed. Payton Thorne's completion % actually was better in 2022 than 2021. YAC went down significantly. What did they lose? Multiple Offensive lineman an incredible running back who started as a rookie for the Seahawks. A tight end whose father is a future hall of famer Steeler and he himself became a Steeler. And yes the no.1 wide receiver. So you think it was all Payton Thorne's fault they went 5-7 and the coach got fired the next season?

Lets be honest, PT earned the criticism for his performance last season, LAST in the SEC QBR, and LAST in passing avg yards per game, and no it wasn't everyone else's fault, or the scheme, Monty, or the sun the moon and the wind...it was his inability to read defense, pre snap read the blitz, post snap read the defensive backs and go to the open receiver... there was separation all season, not on every play but he didn't see wide open receivers in every single game that where directly in front of him... he ran from ghosts and fled the pocket to quickly, unnecessarily when there was ANY sign of pressure... Could the receivers have done better, of course they could have, could the line have held blocks longer in some instances, of course they could have, but this narrative that he was "running for his life every play" or that the receivers dropped every pass and never were open is ridiculous and not supported by the FACTS if you watched the film. He has to do better and play like a 5th year graduate transfer and win the games against the best or sit on the bench, too much talent behind him to watch another season go down the drain because we refuse to pivot. Ultra Short Leash.

Can’t believe all the effusive praise heaped on HF for recruiting. Reminds me a little bit of bama fans’ love fest with Mike Shula in the summer before his first season. I still remember one of them “exclaiming, “Pawl! Can u believe how fast he came in here and turned this thing around!?” I hope PT stops overthrowing receivers now that we have so many great recruits. Ultimate goal is to “gain independence from a losing season?” Are u kidding me?

You notice on real turf we had a lot of guys slip? They kept extra cleats on the sidelines due to that problem. AU wanted to wear a different shoe or design one and UU refused. Nike allows you to wear anything with a swoosh on it. You will see orange, blue, and white sneakers. Might see some wild jerseys too which would be kinda cool. Nike is far superior to UU in college football.

If they lined up against Maryland and NM State with this roster, would they beat them? I dont think they've improved in the key areas enough to win either of these games. Both games were complete beat downs and not even close. Shows how bad our roster has gotten. We can hope for another bowl bid in 2024, but after the end of last season, losing the last 3 games and digression that occurred, we are a long, long way from being competitive.
