Please Note: I talk about the crank timing gear as a 32 - 1 in the video by mistake. It's actually 36 -1. Has no effect on the cam fault or the solution but for clarity it's 36 -1.

"English moth.... *cut*" Lol great video and info as always. My car was displaying the cam fault error before it died but dropped the valve seat and think it was accurate because of that?
@MalcolmV82 жыл бұрын
When you get it running again I'd definitely fix the cam sync fault. I doubt it had anything to do with a dropped valve.

@@MalcolmV8 I plan to do this mod for sure. It only faulted after dropping the valve seat and only then from my experience but would rather sort it out if it's a known thing.

just seeing your channel, cool vids so far. Another couple of ways you can address this issue. In the tune, you can up the "Skip pulses" parameter in ignition options screen. It defaults to 3, but if you increase that it gives more cranking time to have everything get in sync. Also, as with all VR sensors, you can decrease the air gap to increase the signal. As you say typical air gap is about .050 so if you file off the base with the sensor out with a flat file you can easily take .010 to .015 off and your signal will get much stronger at cranking speeds. You can evaluate all this with tuner studio high speed logger while you crank to catch the errors and to see the changes made. A proper hall effect square wave sensor is a great fix tho... Cheers.
@MalcolmV8 Жыл бұрын
How many skip pulses did you have to put in there? I assume into the thousands so that the engine could get some RPMs or if it wasn't the cleanest start it would need a second to catch some RPMs. I thought about trying to close the air gap but my bench tests with a drill on an exciter wheel and VR sensor there didn't get me results I was happy with.

I am about to do this to my 97 cobra. Even when I got the car to flare on startup, I would every once in a while get a cam sync fault. Also it did shut the car down on me during a pull at around 5k rpm which was scary since I didn't expect it. Unfortunate that I had to do this when my previous ecu (haltech elite 2000) didnt have this issue. But in the haltech i could set the arming voltages and I believe I can only do some noise filtering on the ms3.
@MalcolmV811 ай бұрын
A lot of people don't seem to happy about having to swap the cam sensor but I was just thrilled to have found a fix and not have to deal with that issue anymore.
@Karadon196911 ай бұрын
I have to say after doing this to my car, I do not recommend anyone do this. I followed this video to a T. I have put a haltech in my car with 0 issues before. But now with this hall effect sensor and the MS3 PNP, the car wont prime the fuel pump and it only sometimes wants to crank. I have touched nothing in the software as the video states. I did the exact some procedure as this video. I cannot even drive my car. I have key on and crank power going to the red wire in the sensor. I have the blue with orange tracer going to the white wire. I have the gray with red tracer going to ground. It has made my car inoperable. If you have cam sync issues with the VR sensor just mess with the noise filtering. This is not worth the hassle.
@MalcolmV811 ай бұрын
@@Karadon1969 It sounds like you have something else going on. The cam sensor has nothing to do with the fuel pump priming or the car not cranking. Perhaps put the VR sensor and wiring back and troubleshoot from there. Something else is going on. I've done this to many cars and you can see all the other comments of people it's helped. This is a very simple change and only affects cam pulses while cranking. FYI noise filtering on the VR sensor won't do anything. It's not a noise issue with the VR sensor.
@Karadon196911 ай бұрын
I put it back to how it was. Strange how it's the only thing I changed wiring wise. I did remove my imrcs and the connector is just hanging there. I saw it shares a ground. Still no fuel pump prime. I am able to turn the pump on and off in the MS test mode.
@Karadon196911 ай бұрын
I get no continuity beep when I connect a multimeter to ground. I do get 1.243 or 1.234. Looks like I will be puling the sheathing back a bit to see what is going on. I do see some wire strands wrapped around the wires for the cam sensor. I will have to check if they are messed up and then look at where the gray-red wire grounds to.

Did the vr connector come with the pigtail for the cam sensor or you have to source that

The hall sensor came with its own connector and pigtail. So I cut the factory harness connector off and installed the supplied pigtail so the new hall sensor just plugs in.

Wanted to add that I think DIY should make and include one of these hall effect sensors with the ECU's. This is advertised as a "plug and play" kit and the cam fault is a design flaw. The stock ECU does not suffer from this so it's 100% a MS3 problem. Just my thought.
@MalcolmV82 жыл бұрын
@@AwesomeFinish I think the DIY guys did a great job of taking a community generated megasquirt system and packaging it into a MS3Pro setup that the average guy like you and me can buy and swap in with such ease. They took the time to make it robust and drive the stock gauges too. Granted it's a little buggy at picking up the VR cam sensor but the same is true for most aftermarket ECUs. The fix is easy and should have you back on track in no time.
