The fact that Cam was signed just weeks before the season started, and somehow helped bring it to 7-9 was incredible. Most teams tank during a rebuild, but the Pats did not. They actually tried to win most of those games.

Truth is they should've kept Cam over Mac. The McDaniels offence is notoriously complex. Only dudes who've been in it several years can run it - Stidham, Garapollo, Brady etc. - the fact Cam managed to be competitive after only a few weeks in that playbook, and play at a solid level before getting hit with Covid, reflects well. Would have been interesting to see how he'd have fared with a second year, and the athletic gifts he had. Patriots moved off him too quick.

I think due to an off year, we can swing him on another low-cost incentive-heavy deal. We get our starters back, plus a decently high draft pick, and plenty of offensive talent on the way through free agency. With starters coming back, Opt-Outs returning, and young guys taking the next step (Harris, Harry, Byrd, Meyers, Asiasi) you'll see a Cam-led 11-13 win pats. Calling it now. A lot of the losses this time around felt directly tied to a lack of preseason, covid-opt outs, covid-absenses and injuries. Plus those two red zone stops against Buffalo and Seattle could have easily gone the other way. I think, given how many bad things happened this year to this team, and in an increasingly competitive division, 7 wins is remarkable.

With the opt outs back we’re 2 wrs and a tight end away from being contenders. I’d like to see us draft a qb to develop under cam in the first round depending on what’s available and make some moves with trading away some players (Gilmore and White maybe) and with all the cap space we have and bring in a legit #1 and #2 receiver and maybe draft a tight end in the second round. Our passing game was pretty much demolished in Brady’s last year and it needs to be built from the ground up, fortunately we are in a position where we can do that in short order

You can say if Edelman didn't get hurt and the defense didn't have to opt out they would've made the playoffs which is impressive under Cam's first year. NE offense isn't easy to operate. Remember Ochocinco couldn't pick it up quick enough and he's a HOF WR who had to only understand his routes. Imagine having to know the entire damn playbook under these circumstances.
