Every Db since HS is taught to knock down a 4th down pass. The only exception is if you jump an out route and have clear sailing down the side line.

It was worth mentioning...Brees literally said it gave them an advantage in the press conference. Football is a game of inches and you're talking about losing 20+ yards and "5 seconds" as you put it while you have no timeouts...it certainly makes a difference.

lmao "football is a game of inches" is the most trite thing you can say, its not even relevant here. Brees would say that because obviously throwing a pick in that moment in that situation is better but it turned out to be inconsequential. The possession ended on a turnover on downs with time left on the clock. Losing the yardage didn't make a difference. They lost on the grounding call on 3rd down and the sack on 4th down. They lose the game on these plays whether they start on the 30 or the 50, whether they have the extra seconds or not. It did not matter at all.

it is even more relevant in the mindset of the players. Just the fact that you have to go out there and march down 20yards more than everyone expected, especially in such a clutch last minute situation, can put a tremendious extra pressure on all of the players on Carolina. The game is not only about the statistics like losing only 5 seconds and a play, but also about the momentum of the team, are they on a roll or are they feeling extra stress and pressure. Obviously we cannot say it from here, but i think there's a good chance that if they didn't have to go out to the field with that extra stress added on, some of them could have been able to have less disturbing stuff going on their head and focus more on the game. Like the RB who did a really half assed block on that last play, perhaps if he was mentally more on the field, he would have gone through with the block and we wouldn't talk about Cam getting "sacked"

Shattiiee i think that’s a reach. The situation was favorable for the panthers. They stopped the saints on a play where they could’ve lost the game but instead they have a chance and it’s even better than a scenario where the saints would’ve punted. Then you get the yardage back that’s a momentum boost it’s not deflating. McCaffery not being able to block Cam Jordan is about McCaffery being undersized and Cam being one of the best pass rushers in the league not his mindset. No one is thinking about the pick on the actual pivotal plays of the game. When they get the ball back they’re thankful for the opportunity.
