I cam test I think would be super interesting is the Summit 8733R1 The specs are .550”/.550” lift 218/230 @.050” 105+3 LSA I think having such a tight LSA would make for a really interesting test to compare to the cam motion cams and specifically the truck Norris cam

Agreed I definitely want to see what happens at the extreme ends of the LSA spectrum

Thanks for sharing your camshaft profile not everyone is building a Dragstrip car and want to make all the torque and horsepower we can on the street or my 2500 4wd with a 2400 convertor!

Would you mind explaining a bit more in your next vid regarding pressure and why it matters (or how it impacts) the stall coverter? I have a 6 speed manual LS1 (VY), so when I put in a cam (Crow 1249) I didn't have to worry about any of this stall coverter stuff. Just curious in the technical reasons why stall converters are such a big deal with the medium to large cams. Cheers for the great content, these comparison vids are awesome.

I like what the US Truck Cams try to do, as stated in the vid, without a converter / in a manual, low to mid range and average power is better for the street. A factory LS1 Holden is no lightweight either. However, the issue with shelf truck cams is that market has particular thoughts on valve spring changes. So, they design the cams with lower lift to support this. My understanding is that higher lift is basically better for power. If you look at TSP, they did some tests of the same spec cam but with high and low lift. High lift was better everywhere. Although, most truck cam buyers indicate they're comfortable with the trade off to be able to continue to use conventional valve springs. For my needs on the street, in a manual LS1, I prefer the a cam with less duration (intake especially) but with lots of lift. Others most likely would disagree :)

Holdner tested 2 version's of the truck Norris cam, 1 design for stock springs the other needs aftermarket springs.from memory there was no difference between them on the dyno
@jamestoby255216 күн бұрын
@@claytonsmoothy314What were the specs of the actual cams? TSP did a direct test between two of their own cams, one rated for.550 lift (to work with standard style Springs), one rated for.600 lift. The .600 lift was stronger everywhere. There's copies of the dyno sheets online (KZbin removes comments that link to outside sources). Are you saying that you believe that running .600 lift would make no difference over .550 lift?
@claytonsmoothy31416 күн бұрын
@@jamestoby2552 both cams were BTR truck Norris cam's.the normal truck Norris required aftermarket springs,the 2nd version is called truck Norris NSR(NO SPRINGS REQUIRED) the difference was 7 HP . I just re watched the video. Just search Richard holdener truck Norris NSR cam if you want to watch it I don't know how to share videos 👍
@jamestoby255216 күн бұрын
@@claytonsmoothy314 Ah, so there was a power difference between the two. That makes more sense. 7 rwhp isn't nothing in the cam stakes. It's a similar difference between a lot of the cams in the tests on this channel. However, that's different to what I was talking about. That's running basically stock lift (under .500) vs still quite conservative lift (.550) that the truck cam market seems to demand. I was talking about performance oriented cams retaining conservative lift, vs running higher lift. So, let's say .600 and over. There's going to be a power difference. I don't think we can ignore that if you look at the non truck cams tested in these videos, the majority also favour high lift. I found the TSP comparison so interesting because they compared the same spec cams from their shelf range that cost the same money but one has high lift the other low lift. They can sell you either, and indeed sell more low lift versions because of the truck crowd, but found that the high lift makes more power everywhere. They gain nothing from faking that information.

I think after you’ve done all of these smaller daily driven style cams. I think you should go back through each brand and see what there maximum effort cams are like in power and comparison

Educate me, if both cams are better at 2000rpm than the baseline, why would you “need” a converter? I understand that it would be better/faster even with a stock cam. But I’m a little lost

@IndependentMotorsports17 күн бұрын
Manual LS1 can't go wrong with the truck Norris but the lil lop is also a very good candidate too, It has really good street manners.
