ntroduced in February 1970, the second-generation Camaro was produced through the 1981 model year, with cosmetic changes made in 1974 and 1978 model years. The car was heavily restyled and became somewhat larger and wider with the new styling. Still based on the F-body platform, the new Camaro was similar to its predecessor, with a unibody structure, front subframe, an A-arm front suspension, and leaf springs to control the solid rear axle. Road & Track picked the 1971 SS350 as one of the 10 best cars in the world in August 1971. RS (shown to the right), SS package was dropped in 1972 and reintroduced in 1996.
The 1980 and 1981 Z28 models included an air induction hood scoop with an intake door that opened under full throttle.

A friend of mine had owned '79 Camaro RS. Two tone Red & Black Automatic non T-top edition back in the early 80's. I myself bought a '89 Camaro RS. T-top Automatic 2.8 V6 Dark Grey Mettalic new.

This is actually a movie that car dealers used for training purposes. It was definitely well done. On occasion dealers also use that to show customers the various options the car had especially if the brochures don't provide that information.

I ordered a new 78 Z28 black/black w gold turbine wheels and a 4 speed. Wish I kept it along with my 77 Z28 4 speed I also ordered new. But I still have my 70 Z28 4 speed. I didn’t like the 80 Z28 4 speed I ordered new cause of all the air dams.

The last year of the Chevy Camaro was that amazing dashboard. In 1979 through 1980 and '81 they squared off the dashboard which for me has basically destroyed the car

I have seen 1978 Camaros with both styles of dash. 77 78 79 80 81 were all the same basic cars same interiors same engines same transmissions. Please Explain how a different dash panel ruined a whole car?????.

2 minute Camaro commercial and not one single word about the engine performance. The 70s...What a pathetic time to own a new car.

During the 70’s we were in the middle of a serious gas crunch and high performance cars were not the popular option. Cars like the chevette and the Pinto were the more popular American cars selling. GM did what could to keep the Camaro alive, and to keep it viable, the focused on the cars other aspects, such as style and affordability. It was a much different time then and the only way I explain it is, you had to be there.

Lovely cars but they were built at the beginning of the BIg Three malaise era. So, you have decals that blew off in the car wash, an elaborate looking but tacked on, hood scoop that does nothing, a catalytic muffler that smells like rotten eggs, and an engine with not much more power than an aquarium air pump.

I bought one of these new in 1978. Paid about $7,000 for it, I think. Metallic silver, without the spoiler or side trim on the doors. I hated that stuff, especially the spoiler. I called them "shit fins."
