So realistically stoplight to stoplight it’s gonna get smoked every time. And let’s not even talk how each performs on the back roads cuz that is just pure embarrassment for the dodge. Leave it to dodge to create the “highest hp” cars and barely take out cars with less power than it.

Enjoyed your video! As a person who is old enough to have owned used Camaro 1969 Z-28 302, 6 Pack & 440 4 Bbl 1970 Challengers and a couple of SD-455 Trans Am’s, I’m one of those people in my 60s now, who saw “the end of the muscle car” when high compression engines left and unleaded fuel became the rule. What’s happened in engineering with today’s modern muscle cars is 17:22 nothing short of astounding. They’re making more power and torque with less cubic inches and providing twice the MPG, those old cars did, under much stricter emissions standards. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Ford Motor Company. They began the Pony Car segment in 1964, then re-created it again in 2005 with a retro Mustang design that was true to the original. Because of that 2005 Mustang, Dodge came out with the 2008 Challenger, that re-created its original look back in 1970 and then 1971… Then, Dodge found a way to keep getting more and more hp out of them. The Chevrolet Camaro came back in 2010, that morphed the look of the 1969 model, with modern aerodynamics in their 5th generation Camaro. Chevy then re-engineered the Camaro in the sixth generation into being a powerful sports coupe/convertible, that could handle corners and be a more refined driver than any Camaro prior. It was only Dodge that didn’t produce a convertible model Challenger. I think that’s the one big mess they made. But they got so much right in the restyling of the 2015 model, that it didn’t matter that much. As far as a muscle car that stayed true to its roots, the Challenger is hands-down, the winner. Incredible straight line speed with not great cornering. That was what the old musclecar genre was about. Ford and Chevrolet went the route of fast sport coupes. GT cars that could go fast and handle the twisties like they were on rails. I feel very blessed to have seen the rebirth of the Combustion engined Pony Car segment. Most of us had given up on ever seeing them again. Get yours before it’s too late. Because of green energy, we aren’t likely to see them come back a third time. Great video!

My wife has a new LT1 and we absolutely love it. I recently traded my 17 Mustang GT premium in for a new C7 and she traded her Challenger (sxt plus) and I will say the Camaro is pretty much my favorite to drive. There is even a small part of me that kind of likes driving her Camaro a little better than my C7, I think the 10sp vs the 8sp makes the difference. Her Camaro feels so fast and I could only imagine driving a ZL1. They really are a great car and by you having your's for so long is a testament to that. Totally agree with you and my 2 main complaints would be the trunk opening and getting in and out in tight spaces. Visibility isn't really that bad especially compared to her Challenger which was about the same.

I replaced my Corvette Stingray C7 Z51 AT for a 6th.gen Camaro SS in MT. I enjoy the hell of driving my MT Camaro, much better than my automatic transmission Stingray. @Daver G Camaro is also more reliable.The camaro computer are also better overall--especially the 2020s-I think the 2019 and 20s are now faster then the hellcat--the computer can really get the car up to speed without wheelspin.I set a budget of 50k--so this was above what I wanted to spend.I got an AWD Stinger instead.Its as fast as I need something to be anyway.
@khronin4 жыл бұрын
@Daver G I plan on keeping my stinger many years.I wanted AWD because even though I live in GA--the weather fluctuates.Yeah--Sticks r fun--but they are outdated with how quick new autos can shift.Maybe in 5 or so years they put AWD on these American V8s,With 600 plus hp and a good AWD system the car would hit mid 3 all day long--and would be able to do it in many conditions.
@khronin4 жыл бұрын
@Daver G The stinger is what the SS should have been.When you are at 50k plus and have any car that can hit 155 plus--AWD should at least be an option.I like the stinger because it drives like a V8--it has a lot of torque down low--so its low to midrange punch is great--and you do not have to floor it like a 4 cylinder to get it to go quick.Stinger was not on my radar until I had to unload 2 vehicles to 1 in a short time. It came out on top in many aspects.I look at everything--and I enjoy big fast heavy stable cars.The stinger actually doe not feel heavy--but god forbid a wreck occurs--it is nice to know I have 4k lbs of steel around me and the insurance was very cheap for the Stinger--not many are wrecked or stolen and insurance rates them at the highest safety level with AWD.Plus I own it and have 30k left in the bank.I have had no problems nd noone on the stinger forum has had a major repair like a blown engine or turbo go out.
@khronin4 жыл бұрын
@Daver G I had an olds aurora over a decade ago that I had setup to do the silver state classic.Amazingly it never wound up in the shop.I also take care of my cars at the dealer and german delaerships always find 500 to 1k in things to repair when you take them in for their 300 dollar oil change.They gave me some discounted 6 year maintenece plan on my KIA--synthetic oil--and the car takes between 6 to 8 quarts is only 50 bucks to have it changed recently--62 total with tax and disposal--so I am pleased with KIAs warranty and maintenence planThe ATS+V did not make my list cause of lack of AWD.Cadilliac should make an AWD and lay off the 20k in electronics--exotic leather and the stuff many folks do not want that can break.German cars same thing--car is a 50k car with 20k in luxuries that I have no interest in.Plus KIA's fit and finish and quality of the materials is on PAR with a Honda Acoord--might not say much but my crosstour I had for 10 years--every button--every part on the car was as tight and new as the day I bought it, this after 10 years of use.

I would love to add this car to my stable of muscle cars. I for tbe first ti e own a Mustang and it’s the 21 Shelby GT 500 and I’m blown away by how awesome it handles and how fast it is stock aside from a k & n intake and res delete which added maybe 30 hp which is a lot to get from just those two minor upgrades. Another thing that I am impressed with is the duel clutch transmission which is on par with the Porsche PDK 7 speed. We also have two modified Hellcats both with Magnuson 2650 superchargers and one with a Hellcat 426 stroker motor and E85 triple pump fuel system with a Cam, long tubes and all tbe other mods needed to make over 1000whp safely and the other is just a stock Hellcat 10% lower pulley on pump 93 with just a fuel system upgrade and leg maker to go with the Magnuson in the out of the box stock setup and makes almost 800 whp so probably can call her 900 hp to tbe crank. The 426 is just ridiculously fast but when driven normally you wouldn’t know you have 1200ish motor hp. The Shelby is engineered so perfectly we will not modify the engine at sll because I feel it will hurt the performance on the track because power you can’t control is useless and this car is damn near perfect as is. Tge Camaro ZL1 from wgst hear and from tbe numbers on tbe track is to me like the Shelby and unless you intend on just drag racing shoujd of not be messed with too much. Hellcats don’t handle well in stock form and most people don’t even try to road race them so they are more inclined to add as much power as they can and still hook up to get there 1/4 mile times as low as they can. Hellcats are straight line muscle cars period!! The GT500 and tbe ZL1 are called muscle cars but they are also sports cars tgst now home there own against supercars which is an incredible engineering accomplishments The 426 stroker I’ll never sell but the other one I would like to sell and out the money towards a ZL1 or ZL1 1KE if I can find one and I would want a six speed man for sure. We converted the 436 from a manual to an HP90 because of the massive power and tbe Shelby only available with the 7 speed duel clutch auto so I need a manual

I rented a 16 SS and disagree that it’s as fun on the back roads as the ZL1, as I found it was quick but still needed more power to be satisfying imo. The zl1 is just right out of the box in that regard. All subjective of course. I hate how the camaro seats don’t properly recline without being modified. Alcantara looks and feels great but horrible on a high touch point like a steering wheel. The sweat, oil and friction from the hands will degrade it quickly.

Challenger definitely more comfortable because the cockpit has a good amount more room. Shelby and tbe ZL1 both are a little tight and both have blind spot issues so very very similar cars. I would say the GT500 is more comfortable of a ride if you put her in normal or sport modes where the Camaro kinda has a rough ride even when you aren’t in Track mode and the Shelby is a bit faster but not much and I would say they are a tie when it comes to handles. Camaro better fuel efficiency and cheaper maintenance with a much cheaper oil change with similar tire wear. Predator motor needs an oil change every 5k and takes 12 quarts or 5W50 synthetic which is pricey costing $200 give or take just for the oil and filter compared to tbe HC costing under $100 at tbe dealer and under $50 if you change your own oil Tbe Camaro pushrod 6.2L supercharged v8 is about the same type of oil change as the HC’s pushrod 6.2L supercharged v8 so both much less than the Shelby. All around the ZL1 seems to be the best bang for the buck especially the base versions but I would prefer the 1LE with the wider tires, big spoiler and better suspension.

I like the sound of the SC after the aftermarket intake. The only drawback is the pillbox outward view but this design is nice.

I don’t have a problem with visibility, the key is to adjust the outside mirrors correctly. Most people turn the mirrors in too far, which is incorrect.

My 18 Charger Daytona 392 had awful brake squealing. I just put Powerstop Carbon ceramic pads on stock rotors and i have 0 squeal now. Look into whatever carbon ceramic pads would work for the camaro and try that.

I was daydreaming about a Yenko 1100 HP ZL1 but my 455HP LT1 has more power than I will ever need. I really haven't much use for 5th and 6th gear. It does get super mileage if you can keep your foot out of it.

I agree with your assessment although your Mustang is not a fair comparison to the 1LE and ZL1 you’ve had. You had the base suspension on your Mustang. A C8 will beat the ZL1 from a dig but not from a roll as you displayed.

agreed on the leather seating! i have a 2023 sharkskin metallic ZL1 on order and that is the only thing i wished could’ve been available with both options.

You can get a cheap steering wheel cover on EBay that works great on the alcantera? Steering wheel. It grips on the rough material on the wheel. My first 2015 ZL1 had it and the cover saves having to clean it so often. My second 2015 ZL1 thankfully has the smooth leather, I put it on just because I had it but it does not work on the smooth surface because it moves around too much.

Is the drivers seat adjustable?? Meaning can you raise the height of the seat?? The way that hood is made would be hard to really judge the frint end unless you could raise the whole seat to see more.

So which car have you enjoyed the most -- the Mustang, Camaro SS 1LE, Challenger Hellcat or the Camaro ZL1? Or, asked another way, if you could only have one as your sports car for the next five years, which one? Good video by the way.

Ya the C8 Vette is a beast and off the line it has a brutal launch similar to a Porsche Turbo but that’s about it. They bog out at high speeds however that’s where the new C8 Z06 is going to outshine them all even hybrid electric car’s like the Acura NSX and Ferrari SF90 Stradale.

I just got a new Audi S5 sportback in Daytona grey with the black optics package and the magma red interior with carbon fiber etc. My next car I want the 2020 camaro 2ss 1le in the new wild cherry color. I definitely would swap out the steering wheel with a leather one though

Where i live you dont see any zl1 camaros. Typically we see lots of puddy cats and corvets. Everyone asks about my car lol

Terrific video and overview! Silly question, though I'm curious... I noticed paddle shifters... do they serve any purpose in your 6-speed manual?

The paddles enable/disable the function of Rev Matching….both paddles have on/off…… very convenient during stop and go driving and sounds awesome down shifting. I have a C7 and it’s the same shared function. Cheers

Great review. I have a '16 Camaro SS MT and also consider it a great car. Thinking of one day upgrading it, I would like to know from your experience of which is a better handling Camaro: the SS1LE or the ZL1? If you have to do it again which one would you get? The only thing that I hate from the new Shelby GT500 and the Corvette C8, is that they don't come in MT. I already tried a Cayman S in PDK DCT and even that is a very fast and accurate transmission, it felt very boring to drive it, paddle shifting it is just like playing a video game not even close to the driver's involvement of driving a MT. Enough said.

The dual clutch transmission on the C8 is bad to the bone but to me there is nothing like having a manual transmission.
