Fun fact: "Sawasdee"(สวัสดี) was invented by a Thai elite university professor and he had started using it in the mid-1930s before the government officially coined in 1943. Sanskrit "Svasti"(स्वस्ति) is the word that Sawasdee derived from via Old Khmer but the last syllable "Dee"(ดี) is a word of Tai origin means "Good". the concept of combining between Svasti and Dee is a part of the westernization in Thailand. there's no common word and phrase for greetings before the age of Thai cultural revolution. so the professor made the word and phrases inspired by English phrases that have "Good" at the start like Good Morning, or Goodbye. besides, Thais usually say "หวัดดี"(Waddee), a casual version of Sawasdee, to greet someone who is the same age or younger and put "ครับ"(Krub) or "ค่ะ"(Ka) at the end when they need to be more polite.

Yes, there are many spoken but none written languages in Cambodia mostly used by different minorities. The one he is teaching the most used. Every Khmer knows that.

You may have to watch karaoke to get the sounds. www.pratyeka.org/csw/hlp-csw.pdf Use sealang.net/khmer : You can pick one letter at a time and it will provide you a list of words that start with the letter. Then you can highlight the word and insert it in google translate to hear how a Khmer woman would say it.
