There were signs in Cambodia on Thursday (17/7) that the nomination of Foreign Minister Ung Huot as the new first premier could ease the crisis gripping the country since co-premier Hun Sen deposed First Premier Prince Norodom Ranariddh in two days of street battles early this month.
The march of Hun Sen's CPP forces toward Samrong in northern Cambodian seemed to have slowed down following Wednesday's political developments in Phnom Penh.

SOT Hun Sen; Translation "because we also inform asian ministers that any delays in being admitted to ASEAN will harm stability of Cambodia..would make situation more complicated";
SOT Hun Sen; it is very important point.. because he (Ung Huot) has not been appointed he needs two majorities of support and 2/3 of voice of national assembly represents the voice of the whole people of Cambodia.. so its just a question of pleasing the American or the Cambodian people";
