Cambodia has the option to have a retirement VISA for age 50-54. It just costs more than at 55 and the income qualifications are different. But it’s less complicated than Thailand.

Living in Phnom Penh I can find any kind of food I want. I love Tex-Mex and we have many restaurant choices for that, and being from Texas, I found a Texas BBQ restaurant. All the restaurants where I have tried the western style foods have been very good. For me, it's just like being in the US, minus the political climate and high cost of living. I had 2 job offers within 3 days of shooting my CV out for English language teaching positions. Cheers from PP!

From your opinion, you don’t not think about the issues that Thailand has many provinces (77 provinces) to find out of their attractions, many of them are not the tourist places, and still fresh and lots of things to observe. Most of provinces in Thailand did not promote but still have the charm, still authentic, low tourists, low price, many types of local food you could not found in big provinces, therefore you should explore more to make the conclusion.

Cost of living (?) - ''on a monthly basis'' - Thailand may on be a little bit more (!) - AFTER - you park 800,000 Baht in a bank of theirs !!! --- A not so 'friendly' aspect for many ! --- Visa is no comparison for the over 55 ''retirement visa" in Cambodia. Siem Reap is an ideal spot for overall low cost of living and proximity to Bangkok for medical being a 1 hour flight. - - - Thailand may be more appealing for people who are more wealthy and have less need for a lower budget. Those on a tighter budget for retirement may really appreciate Siem Reap for all factors considered.
@ammerudgrenda
@ammerudgrenda 2 ай бұрын
The 800,000 baht is not a fee. It’s just a temporary deposit to make sure you are financially stable. Reason: Too many times, foreigners have run out of money and skipped the country without paying their bills.
@BeekicchinDaidocoro
@BeekicchinDaidocoro 2 ай бұрын
@@ammerudgrendathe Thai should asked for more. Most countries required much higher in security deposit= it is a settlement after all. Health and medical bills alone would have tripled that at the minimal for small operations to planned opt. Unless all foreigners looking to base in Thailand were made to cover their own medical bills or having a full medical insurance taken out before settling.

Thailand has a slightly higher cost of living, but this is compensated by High-speed internet covering the country, world-class health care, world-class superstores and department stores, advanced infrastructure (Sky Train and Subway, Hoghhway, Expressway), and beautiful beaches and mountains. In addition, there are over 15,000 convenience stores spread over the country including Seven-Eleven, Big-C, Makro, Tesco Lotus, Family Mart, Max Value, Tops Supermarket, etc.

Cost of living will depend on what currency your wealth or income is in. Cambodia is USD currency. Any larger price-tag, including rent, will be in USD. The riel is pegged to the USD. THB/USD exchange rate fluctuates quite a bit. There is a huge surplus of cheap new modern housing in Cambodia. Thai food is WAY better than Cambodian food. Very good comparison video!

I agree with you on all points. However, I would like to add a cap-all kind of statement on both countries. My feeling is that, if you want a S. E. Asian feel in a "purist" way for a lifestyle, Cambodia would probably be your best bet. Thailand has become very very westernized simply because the society is very open to change to a high degree where such openess can be convenient and/or commercialized, coupled with the fact that Thailand has opened up to modernization many decades before Cambodia--- basically a big head start. Moreover, Thai mentality for engaging with all societies and countries, has always been very open, so there are just much more opportunity for foreign investment here than in Cambodia. Also, I don't know the real reason for this, but there is tendency for businesses to grow much faster and go international from Thailand, than from Cambodia; with this, comes the creation of much more indigenous capital, which in turn, speeds up development of all sorts within Thailand. Given all that Thailand is, it also entails that large problems with city smog is present in Thailand, whereas it should be limited in Cambodia. In short, I think Thailand is for those that cannot leave the busy life behind and constantly need a fix of it. Of course, one can live in the rural areas to stay away from the busy life, but it won't be far away in Thailand. However, I feel Cambodia is just more serene overall.

Have noticed both countries seem to have a "chip on their shoulder" when it comes to one another, especially among the ppl in govt positions. This wasnt apparent, as far as I could tell, based on my last visit in 2018. Why this is the case ? dont know, but I can speculate. firstly, co-vid hit the world hard, especially so in the global tourism sector. Countries that rely on this type of revenue, be it mild to moderate (that would be Thailand, and Cambodia, respectively) "felt it". With tourism not rebounding as some/ to many thought it would back into a boom cycle, it has become competitive for that tourist $$$. There is also a possibility of a big brother- lil bro dynamic going on here too. with the big one, with a higher GNI, HDI, etc is behaving like a bully to his lil bro neighbor ?? imo, both need to "get back to their shared heritage" roots and be more cooperative with one another. Indeed, they both "have it in them" to do so....whether they actually do or not remains to be seen. I wish them both "chok dee" (Good fortune) . ~gizziiusa

Thailand is not only a Disneyland for foreign tourists that all people in the country have to work in tourism. Tourism is important but it’ not the first rank sector that contribute to GDP, no.1 is actually exporting. Many workers in tourist area are not even Thais but people from neighboring countries. Thais in general never talk about Cambodian until recently, 5 or ten years I’m not sure but it start from Claimbodia try to claim every Thai culture as their own and accuse Thailand for copying them, from Thai traditional dress, to Muay Thai, Khon , Thai food, Songkran festival which Clambodia said they are the original since Angor era when in fact many things are developed later on in late Ayutthaya era and Rattankosin era. Cambodia was under Siam (Thailand) for 400 years so of course they gonna got influence from Siam, not the other way around. If not because of France, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia would be still the same country. Anyway a lot of people think that China who invest a lot on Cambodia is behind this, they are good at copy and claim.
