Great video . I had no expectations for my first visit but I fell in love with the Cambodian lifestyle. Yes you do need to forget certain things that happen in your home country but it’s so much better in a lot of ways

I stayed at a hotel in Battambang and it was near a temple and around 5 in the morning the chanting started through the speakers. No sleep for me after that. Not a big fan of Arby's but I do love a good Jamoca shake every once in awhile.

Speaking of food, a relative that went through the depression (no refrigeration) said, "if the meat smells a bit off , wash it, then soak it in vinegar for 10 minutes then wash it again and cook it" they survived till they were in their 90's. The vinegar killed the bugs but the meat tasted like it was basted in vinegar.🤣

We are from Dallas and in Siem Reap now for the 2nd time this year. I am retired but my wife still works part time. I was hoping to come here for 3 months beginning in January, 2025 for a trial to see if this lifestyle would work for us. While I feel confident I would adjust to the things you have mentioned, my wife is having second thoughts. She told me today she felt she would become bored. @@jtns2845 I agree with you about western women. My wife is Vietnamese and escaped in 1977 and immigrated to the USA. I am afraid she has become too Americanized. She works for a French company doing promotions in stores like Nieman Marcus and Saks and enjoys dressing up and wearing makeup. I feel sure she would not have that type of opportunity here if she chose to work. I can identify more with you and think I would love it.

I might have considered living in Vietnam 20 years ago but not now. The growth has been explosive and the cost of living much higher than in Siem Reap. We visit her family in Vietnam on most trips to Asia and a short visit is all we can handle. I appreciate the responses and suggestions!

Hi Kelly, I have been watching your channel for a while and I have thought about moving to Cambodia. My biggest hangup with choosing between Thailand, Cebu and Cambodia is my lack of mobility due to spinal problems. Thailand is by far better for me accessibility wise but I am not sure i want to make that leap. Cebu where i rent a house is not too bad, I do have a support system there with a few good close friends that help me but I am not really a huge fan of The Philippines anymore. I have stayed in both Thailand and Cebu many many times, but most of that traveling was before my spinal issues. Are there any places in Cambodia that you could recommend for someone with mobility issues (walker/wheelchair) that would be somewhat easy to navigate? i really don't want to live in the city, but the dirt and muddy roads of the outer city areas would definitely be a problem for me.

Thank you for being a #1 Fan. As you said, muddy, dirt roads would be a problem. Siem Reap rebuilt many streets and sidewalks. I have seen people with similar issues here in town. Some have bought those 4 wheel electric scooters (kinda like a mini golf cart) and it looks like that could be an option. Siem Reap town has a population of about 135,000. Not too big but has just about what you may need. I hope this helps. Have a great day !!!

I am not afraid to travel, my health is generally good for 60 years old. There is nothing fatal about traveling unless you have a bar girl lifestyle, involved in drinking and drugs. I don't live that way. I am very simplistic and grounded in how I live.

I think most people will tell you that Siem Reap would be the most realistic place. Reasonably decent roads, fairly green place, a lot of choice of restaurants etc, a lot of good accommodation available, variety of expats around. Rural Cambodia is tough. Battambang I love but the roads are bad and maybe not many expats to hang out with.

You need to enter under an (O) visa and after about 2 weeks go to a travel agency and tell them you would like to get a 12 mo. Visa. They will do all the paperwork (not much) and send it to PP. about a week later you will get your passport back with the Visa. You do have to be over 55 . Residency I know nothing about. In order to buy a Moto, you need to show your Passport and Visa. Kinda the same with insurance. The cost of insurance will depend on the cost of the Moto. I pay about $120yr for a moto that cost me $1550. Hope that helps and thanks for being a #1 Fan !!

You only have to be over 55 for a retirement visa (ER) Check your personal needs with an agent. Bottom line is it's not difficult to obtain a visa type that will permit you to live your life in Cambodia. There's no path to residency. Anyone can buy any motor vehicle.

wet bathrooms, lack of franchise fast foods are advantages. a big disadvantage anywhere in southeast asia is a lack of intellectual stimulation, mitigated somewhat by the internet, or living in a capital city that may attract concerts for example.

I have never ordered anything online while living in Cambodia. From what friends have told me it is a hit and miss. I have also heard that there are some agencies that have a better record but then it costs more. Also, if the item is $$$, there may be import fees involved. As for Amazon, yes they do ship to Cambodia but it is a limited selection of items. Mail does not get delivered to your home. You have to pick it up at the Post Office (be sure that your phone # is first on the letter/package). I hope that helps. Thank you for watching the videos !!!!

There's not a postal delivery service to homes/businesses. Internally there are courier companies and people send parcels via the bus companies. But stuff coming from overseas? Similar sending things out. I wouldn't even try. I once tried sending just some letters from the main post office in Siem Reap and they never arrived.

Some things like open heart surgery they can not. you would have to go to Bangkok for things like that. The video I listed goes a bit more into the subject. Too much info to do in a text. And if you are staying at a friend’s place out in the village…..you will be woken up every morning at 4:30 a.m. when the roosters start making their noise. Those little plastic chairs……be careful….I had one collapse under me when I was living in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I don’t mind the wet bathrooms ….as long as they are not too cramped. Love the bum gun. My first night falling asleep in south east Asia was in a hotel in Chiang Mai close to two temples. I actually liked falling asleep to the chanting. I thought….”Yes….I really am not in Canada anymore.” I found the chanting to be peaceful, and had no problem falling asleep to it. Thank you Kelly….take care. Can’t believe you didn’t mention the heat and humidity, especially in Siem Reap, the temperature got up to well over 100F this year. Obviously it gets hot all over S.E. Asia, but Siem Reap is particularly severe as it’s inland and has hardly any breeze around April/May!

Hey looks like you living the life. Hope to meet some expats when I visit there in 2 weeks time. Will be my first time to Cambodia so feeling excited but also anxious & a little nervous maybe because like you said in your intro it is very different lifestyle & culture to what to I'm used too also I've travelled alot but never experienced a country like this yet. So I want to mention a few weeks & maybe you can offer me some tips or advice I welcome it. Regarding the woman serving drinks which I was impressed with I noticed she was using ice. Should I be concerned about this having ice in my drinks? Next of course I will embrace & respect their culture I just have a problem with motorcyclists not their driving but it seems more than half of them do not wear a helmet & that is crazy & irresponsible still I suppose I have to accept that. Regarding petty crime & from what I've researched theft seems to be big there. Obviously I will use commonsense however should I be worried? And lastly my main concern is the currency. I have so many questions. Should I take both usd & riel with me? I'm worried that usd may be rejected because of the way it looks. I'm also concerned about recieving change in both currencies which will prove to be a headache to work out if I recieve the correct change. Also I'm aware fake money is around & my end up in my pocket. I also learned that riel cannot be changed once I leave Cambodia which I think is madness still I don't want to end up with too much of it. Can it be changed if I'm in Cambodia. Hello Gary. I can understand your concerns. Don't worry. To answering your questions, I will. Ok, Ready? No, no, maybe, yes and I don't know. Hope that helps !!! Nawww, just joking. Ok. Don't worry about the ice. Think about it. They want to make money and if they get the rep of making people sick, word will get around and they won't be in business long. Helmets, yes it drives me crazy and all I have to say is that me and mine always wear helmets. You can't change it so don't even try. Theft is in every country, especially in the tourist areas. Many things you can do to avoid it and that would be a whole video to cover it. Bottom line on that is when you go out, take just what you need, and as the saying goes, only as much as you can afford to lose. Keep your wallet in your front pocket. Credit card in the other. Other than in the Tourist areas, it is very safe and actually most of the violent assaults are foreigners vs. foreigners in the bars !! If you have a CC that refunds your ATM fees, like Charles Schwab, just use your card and at the ATM get your money out in Riel. Fake $100 are all around. That is why you deal only in Riel. It's easy to calculate how much something costs by dividing by 4. 10,000 Riel / 4= $2.50 And if you have Riel left over when you leave, you can change it back at the airport. Hope that helps. LOL bruh, you'll probably enjoy your roast beef better by cooking & slicing it yourself. I learned that wasabi and mayo can maje a nice sauce like horseradish :-) and you can't beat fresh baked bread if you get an oven.
