In this video, we are going to look at the listening paper in the different Cambridge exams.
Many students hate this part, but let me tell you that with the right knowledge and strategies you can make your life a lot easier and increase the likelihood of passing your test.
After watching this video, you will be able to ...:
- understand the most common problems in this part of the exam and or solve them.

Very good tips. However, from my own experience, we don't have so much time to underline or write down notes. We barely have time to quickly read the hypothetical answers.
@teacherphill
@teacherphill Ай бұрын
I agree with you that there is only very little time, but you can at least try to underline as much as possible. Every little bit of help is important in the listening test.

I will take Eiken(advanced English test in Japan). I was studying in America long time ago. One on one dialog is not difficult. Part2 is difficult. The speaker reads scripts. Some scripts are difficult for me to understand, for example, History. Usually, questions are "What happened during Civil war?" and "What does the man imply?" something like this. Part2 is difficult for many Japanese people. If you have an advise, that would be helpful. Maybe Eiken and TOEIC are different from CAE. It will be helpful for any type of listening tests.

To be honest, I have no idea about this test. Perhaps you should have a look at other KZbin channels that provide some information on Eiken. Unfortunately, I'm not the right person to ask.

Thank you so much sir, My exams are in a few days and I was literally sitting hopelessly until this video popped up !. One question sir, I'm PET student and I am struggling to understand the accents of the speaker in the audio sometimes but not very often do you have any tips for that ? Also I struggle the most with part 3 and 4 as they continue speaking about different topics without a gap please provide me some advice . Thanks in advance !
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 2 ай бұрын
I think that you can't do much with only a few days left before your exam. You can practise listening to different accents and try to become more familiar with them, but with so little time I think you should just do the test and trust in your abilities. :)

hello, question, did some words in the material you used appeared in the exam? cambridge collect those words from those materials or somewhere else?
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 9 ай бұрын
I took the questions and transcripts from practice materials that are freely available. They were not in real exams but were released by Cambridge for practice use.

Hi! I find it quite hard to take notes with the computer based version, since we don't have the props on paper. Any advice there? Thanks in advance!
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 6 ай бұрын
That's a good point. In the computer-based exam you can't take as many notes and not as freely as on paper, but to be honest, I don't have a lot of experience with the computer-based exam myself. Basically all of my students take the paper-based test.
@gagc77

@@teacherphill Still happy to do it computer based, since I edit a lot when I write… Haha! This part would be quite messy on paper! Thanks for answering!

Hi! In B1 PET it's bad to get a 157 like not a B2 level in the test
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 5 ай бұрын
Is this a question or a you sharing your opinion? If you take B1 Preliminary, you want to prove that your level of English is B1. A score of 157 in this exam is a pretty good result. If you want to demonstrate that your level is B2, you should take B2 First.

Hey! Am I allowed to take notes while listening? (C1)
@teacherphill
@teacherphill 4 ай бұрын
You absolutely are. You can make notes and write down what you think the correct answers are while listening and at the end of the test you get five minutes to transfer your answers onto the separate answer sheet. The people at the exam are going to explain everything to you in detail. You don't have to worry. :)

The major problem for me in multiple choice questions is that we don't have enought time to read the question. I mean, we have 8 seconds to read two questions with 3 possible answers each one?! It's ridicoulous and it's worse if we think that C1 listening we make a mistake by ignoring DETAILS. I do believe many people lose points just because they didn't have time do read and understand the questions. I did many and many listening tests, and when I'm able to read it with 20 seconds, I don't have problems at all, but, just taking a quick glance in 8 seconds I made mistakes exclusively because I didn't have time to read it lol. So, it's not a good way to evaluate our listening skills, is it?!
@teacherphill

I think you make a very good point. I've never understood why there is so much time pressure on candidates in the listening test but, unfortunately, it is what it is. Perhaps Cambridge will adjust the timings in the future, but until then we have to deal with what they give us and try to do our best.

@@teacherphill Have you seen a new version (digital) is going to be released from february? I was hopeful they were going to give candidates more time do read the questions, but unfortunately they didn't :(
