For all of those people who are Bible smellers :) LOL! The smell has invaded my office and I can sense it when I come in through the door. Oh, and the paper just smells exactly like the 28 GSM of the Schuyler Bibles. Reminds me of my grandmother's house in Portugal :) Peace!

Thanks for the recommendation on the Nelson Premier Bible I found it for about half the price of the Quentel because I wanted to get one in the new King James version and it was really Ideal with the two columns with 11 point font and the references at the bottom so it was really great. Thanks.

I have heard that the new King James version has about the best references and translator notes in the business so I am happy to be again thinking New King James Version which I now also have in the TOPAZ Edition.

I recently bought a green one. I already had a Turquoise from Church Bible Publishers which was rebound in black pebble grain water buffalo, which I love. When the Topaz came I was very underwhelmed, my first reaction was that it was thin and light and felt cheap and mass produced to a price. Straight away I thought I would not be keeping it, however because I bought it as a second Bible so that I wouldn't have to take my beloved Turquoise with me to work I decided to keep it. I can say that I now love it. It's a very easy Bible to read. The text is very easy and gentle and I love reading it. It may not have the heft and hand made feel of my Turquoise but it does its job very well and I may get a blue one as well. I paid £175 for mine and some I have seen are selling for £220. I would not pay that much for one, I don't feel it has the quality feel to warrant that price.

Wonderful review. Thank you. I had been waiting a long time for an ESV translation in verse-by-verse format, that was printed on high quality paper and was line matched. Crossway publishes a verse-by-verse with a beautiful typesetting, but the paper quality is not as high as I would like, and it isn't line matched. So, when the Topaz was announced, I bought one immediately. I do love it, but I agree very much with your point regarding the format for poetic passages. It is distracting to me as well, and I find myself referencing other Bibles as I read to check against a poetic setting. Other than that, I am so happy with the Bible.

Great review! Both entertaining and helpful. I haven’t been able to find an NKJV Bible that I think is just right for me. I have several KJV’s I feel are just right for me, and was thinking the Topaz might finally be the NKJV that fit me perfectly. I have a Clarion, and love the size, readability, and side references. I don’t prefer single column though. I have the Quentel, but don’t prefer paragraph format. I have the Premier vbv, but I don’t prefer the layout-so few words in a line in the columns. It just reads really “vertical” to me, and is not pleasing to the eye (just my opinion). I love the layout of this Topaz. It’s my perfect NKJV- vbv, double column, side reference, and the font isn’t so big that only 3 or 4 words fit on line. The font is beautiful and the colors are amazing! After watching other reviewers, I was ready to write the check. You have been the only reviewer that I’ve seen to point out the issue in the poetry. Too much of the Bible is poetry for me to deal with that, I think. Plus, why wouldn’t they make OT quotes stand out in the NT 😞. That’s part of what I like about the NKJV. I’m on the fence now. I don’t know if I want drop $240 on it, when I already have three other high end “almost perfect” Bibles. Great review. Good work. Great job doing the comparisons too! Thank you for sharing.

I have just bought one right now, same as this one in the beautiful blue, and it will arrive right after the Schuyler Quentel NKJV I bought yesterday in purple...coming to Australia. It will be fabulous to see and use these two gorgeous bibles! They'll go great with my KJV's which are the Treveris, and two wonderful Allen's bibles: Longprimer 53 and Brevier Clarendon. I've got Concord wide margin and reference bibles, both great bibles, however the Topaz has a larger type size and new Topaz Font, and because I only have one eye to read my bible, clarity and contrast is what I am always looking for. Many thanks indeed! P.S. It was my birthday yesterday, so what the heck...in for a penny, in for a pound... and I am treating myself!

I wish Cambridge had made font bigger and put notes at bottom. But kept RED hilites and RED verse #s. Except in red print ..alternate to black verse #s. A nice touch.

This font size actually works for me, I don't need it to be bigger. I also like the references on the side. I just can't adapt to the caps in the middle of a sentence 😱

You can get a cherry red leather ESV on Amazon. NKJV in black calfskin. Plus TOPAZ does NOT have all NKJV references AND notes. A win for Schuyler I THINK.

Seems like they could HAVE used the blank space in margins for bigger FONT references. OR set them out like CLARION . references near verse affected. And made bigger FONT. At least 10.5 or 11.

I think I do HAVE the NEW King James version wide margin which you said you were going to get later but of course this video has a bit of a date on it but as I recall the Thomas Nelson New King James Version wide margin is an excellent Bible and I think it has 36 or 40 GSM and excellent space to write in. Or just more room to enjoy the text of God's WORD.

Nelson in premier has 36 gsm while Quentel has 28 gsm I think. Nelson also in blue.

I have a red calfskin leather for ESV and black calf skin for NKJV. ..in TOPAZ..Better to me than thin AND floppy goatskin . esp if topaz is thin and floppy. I like thicker as in QUENTEL.

I really love the verse by verse and the font looks amazing I love my NKJV Quentel so much though I don't know if I can justify spending 240. It is very tempting though I love the verse numbers in either red or black depending on the text color I always thought with my Canterbury why don't they use the opposite color for the text... looks like Cambridge thought of that already 😊

Hi there, thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! In all honesty, I think that in terms of using the references and translation notes, I find the Quentel just a bit more user friendly. I'm probably biased here since the NKJV Quentel is my main Bible and I use it everyday... The Topaz is verse by verse so finding specific verses when you are studying may be a bit easier but even with this aspect, the Quentel has bold verse numbers that are very visible. So IMO, when it comes to the things you are asking about, the Quentel takes the cake 😄 I hope this helps! If you have any more questions please let me know 😉 Blessings!

I have the Thomas Nelson, snd love it.. I like the plain cover. In fact, I love everything about it. I paid $124 something . I think Nelson did an amazing job. . I do like Lord to be capitalized. The Topaz is a beautiful Bible, but the dealbreaker is how the poetry is formatted. Poetry needs to look like poetry...This from an old English teacher. I really don’t like how the poetry is done..

You can get a blue leather Buffalo Leather Bible cover with Edge lining and it is much more pleasing than the goatskin because it holds up better and is also more steady when you hold a Bible in that it does not flop as much . I got one from zondervan with The New American Standard Bible and I really like it . I like it better than any blue type floppy leather that might be available. For it is flexible but does not flop as much as some of the others what you would bend around which I don't like to see with A Bible Also cheaper. By 1/2 at least.

Like I mention in the video, I would probably choose the Quentel over this one because of the price, and the consistency in the text (no capitals out of place...). This being said, this one does offer more margin space and the layout of the text is gorgeous. It's a matter of preference really... Maybe I'll record a comparison video if time permits :)

That's an expensive Bible. I like seeing what's out there with the premium leather bibles. But, if you are a pastor, I can see getting the best, to last for many years to come.

Yes, many Bibles are sent to me for review and I get to keep them so I'm really blessed in that I don't have to pay for most of them. However, sometimes I do invest in more expensive Bibles if I'm really interested in them. I see a difference in using a premium Bible, they are normally more resistant and durable, beyond the aesthetic aspects. This one was a bit disappointing because of the capitalization issues but still a great Bible that will last for many years! Blessings 🤗

I bought it for $240 from evangelicalbible.com and it's actually less expensive now, at $230. I did point to my blue NKJV Thinline Premier by Thomas Nelson and said that you can buy it for way less than the Cambridge Topaz NKJV in goatskin (100 or 104 at that time). Blessings!

I wonder if the goatskin is really worth an extra $80...the calf split is only $157 on EvB. I actually tend to prefer calf split, that cover has more stiffness while also wearing in nicely - comparing against an NKJV Clarion in calf split vs. a KJV Clarion in goatskin that I have. The goatskin is definitely more luxurious but I think the calf split is overall a better choice.

I also prefer a somewhat stiffer cover. I purchased a Cambridge Concord KJV with thumb indexes in black calf-split leather recently. It is my first calf-split Bible, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by its quality. The grain is beautiful and feels wonderful in my hands. It is softening quite nicely - even in the short time I’ve had it. If I buy this new Topaz, I’ll probably go with the brown calf-split cover as well.

These are just some of the unknowable mysteries of life that will probably forever remain mysteries.

I want the best that I can buy and money not being an issue, what would you choose? I think the Premiere editions are great and I like the font, I like the Schuyler look of the cover but not necessarily the 28 gsm paper… Can you guide me please?

Hi there, thank you so much for your kind words. Personally, I would go with the Schuyler. I had the same feelings towards the 28 GSM at the beginning but after using it for about 4 years I can safely say that you do get used to it and it ends up surprising you. My honest 2 cents 😄 Schuyler never gave me a Bible to review 🤣🤣 Also, if you are okay with a thicker Bible, you may get lucky and find a pre-owned NKJV 36 GSM. But these are rarely found for sale and when you do have one they tend to be quite pricy. I still have mine (it's amazing). I underlined on it a lot and never thought of selling it even though to be honest I don't use it these days... Thinner is definitely a plus for me. I hope this helps ☝️

@@AndrewJTakacs it really depends on your preferences. That green Premier by TN is gorgeous! The Schuyler Quentel NKJV, regular size, 28 GSM will be similar in height, but just a bit shorter and quite a bit thicker. If you need big font, the regular size is the way to go. If you are okay with a smaller Bible and smaller font the PSQ (Personal Size Quentel) is a gorgeous Bible, super readable and very portable. How do you interact with the Bible? What is your preferred size for a Bible? Do you mark your Bible?

I’ve seen so many opinions about how the Schuyler paper is just too thin, so I’ve looked into Allan as well, but they aren’t available. I want something that can come with me everywhere and stand the rest of time.

@@AndrewJTakacs Well, to put it simply, you will not find the perfect Bible for you, if you are as picky as me 😄 This being said, I've been doing what you seem to want to do with your Bible with my Schuyler Quentel, regular size. I've recorded several videos with it, including a Bible flip through so you can check that out. I mark a lot and the paper has held the test of time. Again, not a perfect option, but for me, the best option out there right now 😉

Cambridge Seems to be getting away from what they do BEST. The KJV in dark and bold readable PRINT. Based on print from 1920s TURQUOISE CAMEO And from 1950s CONCORD NO better bible KJV Print in 100 years and 70 years respectively. I also like church bible publishing reprints of TURQUOISE and the LARGE PRINT Cambridge BIBLES. In CRANBERRY RED and BLUE covers.
