What a day this last Sunday was. My Wife and I went out to some yard sales after church and in the find of the year I came across this great pile of stuff!
Here is a sad update on the tower project.....
ITS UP! But it has to come back down. The dang wire for the I MAX 2000 must have gotten pinched during the very scary lifting phase because it has a dead short. It took me 8 hours to get that tower up using the tractors, chains, rope, and a lot of prayers. It looks incredible and that antenna is WAY WAY up there. I only hope I can get it back down to the point where I can find the damage and fix it before Sundays live show.

I live in the uk. I still sit on the super bowl chan 6 waiting to hear America in the late summer months when western skip is strongest. Made my first copy to the states in 1979 wheni was 10. Nearly 50 now and still wait for the American voices and the excitement when one comes back with my call sign. 26 TANGO MIKE 64 SOUTH EAST UK.

But that is cool how that works out you sell 2 of those and your new Uniden's free! It all happens for a reason they say. I'm looking forward to the videos on these new radios. I picked up a radio shack trc-447 today $30, your deal was way better lol. I'm looking forward to see the live feed and the tower! See ya-Josh

Good reviews! A few years ago I came across a old (like new) Cobra 139 base at a garage sale for $5.00. Surprisingly, no one had been in the radio tweaking it and the only thing wrong with it was a hetrodyne crystal which covers channel 19 of the 4 channels is bad. A lot of times a fella can find some good buys at garage sales and hamfests. I was curious if the old Cubic Corporation Siltronix (1011C and 1011D) rigs were still around. I found quite a few on Ebay for sale and those rigs went for $605.00 in the early 1970s. They came down in price later on for around $300+. Many of the CBers in this area bought the rigs since they had a VFO and had a increased RF output of 40 watts AM, 120 watts SSB. They were illegal for CB but many fellas didn't care and used them anyway. The rigs were suppose to be used on the Amateur radio bands but instead the CBers used them on FreeBand. The FCC gave up on trying to police the mess on the CB band in the 1970s and even up to the current time. The best CBs I have messed with was the Hygain 623 Utopia 23 channel base, International Executive 100D, 50D. The Siltronix rigs were far more superior in selectivity/rejection and sensitivity versus the CB rigs. They were mostly tube and the biggest drawback with the rig was on SSB where the VFO was prone to drifting from heat and temperature changes. I suspect that the box for the Lafayette radio has a bank of crystals in it for extending the channel range for the radio if it was a 23 channel rig?

Farpoint Farms: Very cool!! I'm just wondering if you ever sell any of the radios you find. I'll explain why I ask: I'm looking for an ssb CB radio for as little $$ as possible. The reason is: I've got disabilities/am disabled and can't work anymore(doctor's orders). I have heart conditions, bad back, shoulder & hip problems. Since I'm not allowed to work I really have to watch every penny I spend. Being stuck at home alone will drive anyone bonkers after a while!! That's why I want to set up a CB mobile and base station. I can't find any deals like you find!! Might you have an older ssb cb that you might want to sell? (for not too much $$!!). Hey it never hurts to ask!! I'm a fellow CBer from the 1970's!! I have a magnetic antenna from Radio Shack(circa mid 1970's!!), so all I need is an SSB CB!! Any thoughts? Might you want to part with any of your ssb radios? Thanks in advance for reading and answering this. Yes, I already subscribed to your channel!! Take care, my CB & car brother!! 73's from Norman in Montreal!!

Hey Eric yesterday I came accross a Craigslist ad for CB Radios and scanner and a few other odds and ends. I got a Cobra 29, a GE mobile 40 channel, a 40 channel perace-simpson, a 40 channel realistic mobile. 4 scanner 2 crystal 2 programmable. A bunch of microphones and cords a few brackets mic clips etc. Also 2 RadioShack magnet mount antennas still in the package and a couple beat up antennas and parts. Also 2 old FM radio convertors. Everything for $50! Don't know if it's a good deal but the scanners are working so far all I have really checked! Keep those great videos coming my friend. Talk soon

Big win! That Lafayette looks like it’s a tube type. I like that cobra I’ve never had one of those I had a couple of 2000s I’ve still got one I like them pretty good to. My best score was on a Facebook group for CB radios I guy down towards Winston had posted it on there and his grandfather had passed away and left him a garage full of stuff and he didn’t know what it was And what it was worth. A thousand people were making him ridiculous low offers on Facebook but not one person went to see him and purchase it so after about two weeks I offered to drive down there and check out what he had and I told him to look on eBay to figure out what the stuff was worth Which is usually kind of high. He was actually pricing the stuff at a fraction of what I was telling him it was worth I took 250 bucks with me that’s all I could swing at the time and I had just about all I could haul in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. I got a cobra 2000 that I have now which looks brand new. I got 2 cobra 148’s a cobra 142 a 4 tube elkin amplifier and 6 tube elkin amplifier. A box with 4 D104 mIcs. I got a 40 channel fs2340 sonar base radio which I’ve never even seen before that works great. And got a sonar amplifier to go with it and he was throwing other stuff in my box as I was walking out the door. I was so excited I had to pull over and hook up one of the 148s in my jeep and was talking on it on the way home. I’ve still got about all of that stuff.

Holy mother of all scores!!! Sounds like a genuine jackpot. You've got to be wiling to make the drive when stuff like this comes along. I got a great pull behind tiller one day because I was the one that hopped in my truck and actually went to get it when everyone else was asking him to hold it. As they say, those that hesitate are lost.

An older friend of mine I knew back when I was a little fellow back in the 1960's use to talk to me all the time on the cb radio. When I got older life happened and I did not have time for c.b. Decades later I got back into the hobby and guess who was on the radio? My buddy Leland number 313 on sideband. He invited me over and for about a year and a half I would go to his home and talk on his higher dollar radios. In 2010 he gave me his magnum s-9.My jaw dropped.I kept asking, are you sure.He said,Yes its just collecting dust.in early 2012 he passed away from pancreatic cancer. He never told me about it.His wife told me he did not want anyone to know. He wanted me tell you when he passed away to tell you thanks for keeping him company on the radio while I was at work and he knew the radio he gave you that you would take good care of it. He was from the WW2 generation and they really dont make people like him anymore.I guess what Im trying to say,Is a lot of the older folks on the radio are passing away and they are definitely missed. If anyone read this thanks for letting me share and Holy Moly thats a great find on all those radios. 697 Nashville and cant wait to hear you on the radio. 73's

I totally loved CB radio back when it was still popular in the late seventies and early eighties. I really miss it. I don't know where you could even get a decent radio or base station antenna these days??? I'd definitely want SSB though. Fast forward, I've now been a licensed ham for over 30 years. I sold all my equipment 5 years ago. There is virtually no local activity. Ham radio has FAILED to keep pace with technology and is probably headed for extinction in less than twenty years. It's a very sad situation.

They even have the listings for all the county channels listed on the bottom. Two work well, the other has low audio output.

Only one worth a damn is the 135, the rest are just parts boxes.

I totally disagree. The 135XLR with extra channels has been peaked and tuned as well appparently. I'd bet that radio alone would get over $125 on Ebay. The other bases are worth around 50 a piece, the mic is a good $35, the three scanners are $10 a pop, and the SWR meter is worth at least $20. That comes to around $360. Add maybe $5.00 for the old 23 channel radio shack unit and 10 for the RG213 jumper and it looks like its really close to $400.
