Australia is home to a remarkable number of wild camels. According to the government-supported website Feral Scan, the current estimate places the feral camel population between 1 and 1.2 million. Remarkably, this number is projected to double every eight or nine years. These camels, descendants of those originally imported from British India and Afghanistan during the 19th century, now roam freely across the Australian outback. I lived 2 years at Woomera, South Australia, right in the desert outback, and saw plenty of these beasts.

India and maybe Pakistan, are the only countries to have both species of Camels, the Dromedary (single humped) and Bactrian (Double humped) camels.
