Australia was built on the back of camels, and now camels are being massacred there. They don't even stand a chance at escaping. Very inhumane. Thanks for the documentary. Very informative.

@@mikejoness2041 you think they are backward for loving camels, taking care of them, and using them for meat, milk, etc. instead of shooting in head leaving them to rot. I remember watching this years ago. A very , very good documentary that is so worth watching again, thank you Al Jazeera .
Let me be clear. This is an excellent documentary and I fully support Ali's mission. The comments I've made are in response to some of the ill-informed comments on here NOT about the content of the video nor on the admirable task that Ali has set himself. I wish Ali the best of luck in building a viable camel industry in Australia.

Excellently done Ali Sultan Al Hajri. I am from the Western world, and am Gobb-smacked that a Western country as innovative as Australia, is taking this route when SO much can be benefitted by these camels if managed correctly. Financial benefit alone is phenomenal by what can be achieved with these camels in Australia. Simply can not wrap my head around their mismanagement. They're throwing money away and disrespecting an animal that could be giving them so much. How does such an intelligent nation not see this? So frustrated.

Quite a detailed insight into Australian camel culling. This is so inhumane but i understand the commercial aspect of it as well. Let's hope there is a way to accommodate these wild camels for meat industry especially for export. Love the hospitality of Ali when he made coffee for other people. I have spent a few years in Oman and people are so friendly and hospitable there as well so it was reminiscent of those times.

I'm so grateful to find these documentaries by Al Jazeera, that are so interesting and give a perspective on cultures I would otherwise never get to encounter. In the United States, our news media does not provide any views other than US-centered ones. We deal with a huge amount of invasive species issues here in the US and I spent my day yesterday cutting down invasive trees from an old-growth woodland. I feel bad for the trees, but of course, not the same depth of love for them that I could see this man had for his camels. They're such amazing animals, it is hard to see them slaughtered. Invasive species are not guilty of anything but having been brought to a land they did not originate in. But they destroy so much, whether it's a rodent or a tree or a bird or camel or snail ... it's hard to tackle such big problems knowing that there will probably never be a final solution to it. The trees I fight against will return to the woods the instant someone stops cutting and poisoning them. If one pair of breeding camels are left in the outback, within fifty years they'd be right back, destroying the landscape again. It's a problem that only thousands of years of equalization will "solve," and everything that dies in the meantime is collateral damage.

I'm not against shooting the camels but I am definitely against wasting them and leaving them to rot. Also, Australians should try eating camel meat. EDIT: Also, the justification for the culling is mainly due to the sheer amount of vegetation eaten by them, threatening native species.

Good documentary. Unfortunately there is no easy solution. During colonisation, Australia had a huge number of introduced species, that a century and a half later causes huge environmental problems. Rabbits foxes, pigs, toads, and unfortunately camels..

A very good documentary and viewpoints. Over our way in the southeast US, we have the same issue with wild hogs. The problem is getting the carcasses from the field to a processor. Distance and delivery are the problems. I realize hog meat is forbidden in some cultures but I see a parallel issue with the camel in Australia.
