Why are people going on about the alcohol question? These seemingly minor issues can be a good indication of how much freedom the Syrian people will have, if they impose an alcohol ban it can be an indicator of a more repressive regime that imposes their personal views on its people where allowing and giving the Syrian people the option to buy alcohol can indicate a much freer society.

The Taliban in Afghanistan promised many things to the US before they gained a grip on power and then reneged on all of them once they felt secure in their rule. Ahmed al-Sharaa is concerned about Syria and rightly so and will take time to build a new foundation. The West should firstly respect that and what has happened / 2. Remove sanctions (as it never works) / 3 Remove the stigma of being called "terrorist" / 4 Start building bridges via soft diplomacy / 5 Respect the decisions made from within Syria / 6 Always be wiling to listen & always have dialogue (even if you strongly disagree).
