I think the log being tiny kind of makes sense if you think about it. If dropped items were the size they are ingame, they would still be pretty big when it comes around to actually storing them in your pockets. Them being *very* tiny makes sense as to how they could carry enough logs to construct a small shelter instead of *maybe* having enough to build a wooden closet.
