Thanks Leigh. When my pack pain has incapacitated me into bed, I've worked on copying slides into digital with a Z7 and an old Nikkor 60mm macro lens and tools. Then the next time I had what I thought was another bulging disc, my orthopedist said, "Not so fast son. This time you've got an infection in your back that spread from an infected heart valve..." and I got to retire at age 73, undergo a long hospitalization, and I now pursue photography and on-line photography viewing. You've brought me so much joy through this. I hope your recovery is speedy and complete. Remember your orthopedist's best asset is his / her brain, not hands. Like photography where the imagination is more important than the gear. Good luck!!! You've brightened my photography journey.

Hey Leigh - as a fellow person with Back/Neck issues, please take care of yourself, listen to the doctors, and don't push too hard through recovery. Thank you for the discount code for KEH, I just purchased a Nikon 60MM Micro lens that I have been eyeing for quite some time, to go with my D5600 kit. I know I want to go mirrorless at some point, but I still need to get better with my work.

Hopefully your back heals up quick, and it was cool to see the orange couch again. Not so sure about a detachable LCD screen, but a little more flexibility would be good. I have a Canon EOS RP, and the L-bracket I got for it actually restricts what direction I can use it in. And for sure some kind of changeable indicator of what button does what. I don’t typically change my buttons once their set, but that doesn’t stop me from forgetting which one I have set to which function.

Leigh sorry to hear about your bulging disc and the pain your in. Hopefully the doctors can figure out quick solution and have you back taking photos. I like yours and Raymond idea of features you mention in this video. As retired electrical engineer the main issue with mobile devices, phones, cameras, tablet's, Laptop, etc. is battery life. So with that said...the more electronics' circuitry you put in a device the more battery capacity you need to run those features (larger display, 5G, Wi-Fi, etc.). So what may need to happen is camera bodies need to get bigger, for larger batteries or maybe a dual battery implementation. As a Nikon Z50 owner and using snapbridge (doesn't work very well) to control my camera and download photos into my apple Iphone, my batteries dies really fast, so the need for lots of batteries. There is also a limitation on how big you can make a lithium battery, so it comes down to battery technology and how the device size. Looking forward seeing back on your feet and making more videos.

This is a good list. I was just today lamenting to a buddy that there isn't more attention paid to little UI niceties like labeling your custom modes & menus. I already mentioned the Ricoh GR III lets you do this, but another cool feature they have is showing a scale for what is in-focus give your current aperture and focus distance. That's so useful! You shouldn't need to open Photo Pills to calculate your focus depth! The GR snap focus feature would also be cool on bigger cameras, albeit less necessary. I would also like to see more functionality out of the USB-C port found on modern cameras... For example, it would be great if you could plug in any usb-c monitor for a larger display, or plug in a hard drive for instant backups. Finally, it would be super cool if more manufactures had API's for their cameras. I don't need Lightroom or Instagram on my camera, but it would be awesome if developers could extend the functionality of a camera by building a plugin. Again I'm going to mention another Ricoh, but my Ricoh Z1 360 camera has an API and I regularly use the "dual fisheye" plugin when use that camera to shoot virtual tours. That particular plugin shoots a bracket and builds an HDR DNG raw file in camera (just like you would do in LR), how cool is that! Leigh, I hope the surgeons are able to get you taken care of ASAP. I've never had a bulging disc but having your back in debilitating pain is not fun. I wish you well!

Yes, in-camera editing, or even better, why don't more cameras offer more 'tunable' jpeg output like the Fuji cameras do?

I should say more tunable than contrast, sharpness, saturation, etc...

I'd like to see, or automate, a voice button, where you can use your voice to change a setting through your voice. You might say --> "Change shutter to 1/1000" for example. Or a specialized setting that you may need to change all the time that you programmed a button to do. For example, you are switching from shooting landscape, but all of a sudden you see a bald eagle flying near by. You may want to change your Eye detect setting to animals, as well as several other settings. I use a different camera manufacturer than you do, so you may have other examples. Wouldn't it be great if your voice can do some of the things you want instead of pressing buttons or scanni9ng through the menus?

Fun video. Thanks! I thought of a feature while watching your video. You talked about not introducing a new model when there are only minimal changes from the previous model. How about paying for a firmware upgrade to your camera. If it is a feature that does not interest you, you pass on the offer, however if there is a feature that will be helpful, you will make a purchase. The camera company may generate significant income for a significant upgrade thus saving all of the costs of manufacturing and selling an upgraded camera. It could also be a monthly subscription price similar to an Adobe plan. I would gladly pay for an upgrade to the autofocus system for my Z6 instead of buying the Z6ii and Nikon may realize significant income without having to go through the manufacturing process. Keep up the great videos and feel better!

I often think that, if they wanted to, Google or Apple could release a “real” camera with a full frame sensor with their AI / computational photography, seamless integration with Android / iOS, and a basic lens set, and likely blow away the whole industry. Only reason they don’t is, well, in many ways they already are blowing away the industry.

Agree !! Camera software is pretty pre-historic. Where is GPS on all cameras, where are the flexible features available on a basic phone, not least iPhones. Where is the internet link ? Yes, firmware updates need to be radical

Top screen for all cameras! Nikon has top screen on all their FF cameras, while none of Sony's cameras has top screen. Easy to check settings, easily seen battery percentage, one can go on and one with the advantages of top screens but perhaps the most important factor is, cameras are complete, more professional with top screens!

I recently got to use a Ricoh GR for a week or two and was pleasantly surprised to find they let you... take a seat now, LABEL your custom modes! It's baffling to me you cannot do this on Canon, which is what I use. Do Nikon, Sony or other manufactures let you label custom modes, menus, etc?
@fredrogers41862 жыл бұрын
The problem with increased firmware updates versus body updates . . . profit. But that's a fantastic idea and I'd even be willing to pay for individual updates. Hear that, Canon? Same or almost as much profit, just less STUFF. And no, we don't need higher FPS or better resolution. Enough already. Our eyes and minds don't need an image that can be blown up to wall size. (Heal up and feel better soon!)

Maybe not a feature but I want to see a mirrorless camera system in the market that's far less than $1,000 USD that's crop body, with IBIS, and a prime lens. Like a Nikon Z30 II with a Z DX 35mm f/1.8, combined to be $700 USD. And how about a "feature" in the photography space that needs to stay? I'd love if Adobe can keep the photographer plan at $10/month and keep pushing more features to phones and tablets to make them near equivalent to desktop (think color profiles and presets). This is a "feature" that needs to stay.

It sounds like you have really bad sciatica. I suffered through this for 20 years and counting. There’s various ways to manage it with stretches specifically tailored to open those lower Lumbars but if the doctors recommend surgery then that might be best Also hopefully you sleep on a very hard bed. Helps a lot.
