This is heaven! Pro Tip: If you're really serious about picking up one of these filters like I am, screenshot every image, bring it all into Photoshop, label everything accordingly and A-B like a MF-er. Really it's the only way to compare. Some of the filters are so similar you can barely tell after 5 A-Bs. It's 100% impossible to compare by memory.

Do you recommend increasing strength to 1/4 for between 24-35mm lenses if I’m using 1/8 on my 50mm and up? I’m not super concerned about the halation being a bit different, but different softness of skin tones would bother me..

Great presentation of the various Tiffen filters. I must confess that halfway through the video; that the narrator does sound a bit like the voice of the geico commercials. I think I have a bit of comparison re-watching to do...lol.

Which Glimmerglass number should I get as my first?
@palmtreewhispererАй бұрын
@@WilfredFumblyI would honestly go with 1/4 which in practice is about a 15-20% difference. Slight but not overbearing. It definitely softens a bit of the rough textures of the face without losing detail.

Stylistically if you wanted a more noticeable difference then the 1/2 would be my alternative starting point.

I've noticed that Black Pro Mist 1/4 increases noise in the shadows - could it be due to hallation? I'm considering changing it to Glimmer Glass 1/2, any advice on this move? I'd really appreciate it, as there is nowhere to rent them in my area.

Allot of work in one video. I never realy understood why I would use these filters in my shots as they visualy degrade the picture and most of the intended effects could be done in post as well. Now I see that there are certain situations where you would want to use them. But still I feel like this is a bit of a Stockholm effect. Back in the good old days when we were fighting for a cleaner image all the time... you know what I mean.
@S3l3ct1ve4 жыл бұрын
Some effects cant be reproduced, you can only mimic those effects using postprocess, but to really mimic those effects, you need to see them first to be able to understand how to mimic them in a proper way. For example a CPL filter, most of the people know then because they remove reflections from the glass etc.. But in the very same way they remove reflections from other surfaces, for example leaves in the forest, lets say after the rain when the leaves are still wet and they reflect some sunlight, the CPL filter removes that and brings in the very saturated green color. You simply can not replicate that in Post. As for these filters, for example Glimmerglass, it spreads the light from harsh light sources to the shadow area , softens the shadows to the noticeable level, maybe we could do that in post, but I believe using this filer we can recover more details from those shadow areas in Post it should also alter the level of noise, soften the grainy effect a little. Another thing highlights... There is just different way the light drops on to the sensor and that gives the different result. Maybe you can replicate that in post, but to replicate it properly, you will need to play around quite a lot and make sure not to make it unrealistic
