I personally like the image of the mound at 6:15. It seems more balanced and still has a nice foreground and background element without seeming too empty. That’s to me at least. Also loved the shot of the single tree just before that.

Love your videos. And I particularly love your commitment and investment in your local community. I believe that with intentional community building, we will all heal as a society. In any case, I'm with Molly on the last selection. :) Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing.

Really digging the new intro segments (b-roll + music) you’ve been doing since moving back into your home office. Quality is getting better and better!

Really feeling version A. Feels like there’s more dimensionality. Also, the set of photos of the mounds itself feels like ample material for a photo book. I love the feeling of those mounds as the primary subject of each photograph across a series. I think it would force the viewer to ask questions, which would open up conversation about the history of the place and the meaning of the mounds. So cool.

The breakdown of your thought process is great here. Choosing to maintain a particular distance from the subject is an interesting constraint, especially in landscape. Thanks for this video!

Hi Matt, just recently purchased a Mamiya 6 . When I used the 150mm lens, I got a vertical black bar on the photo. There was no indication in the viewfinder telling me I was close to parallax.

Digging version A of the mounds, I like the emphasis on the foreground. Looking forward to more Chillicothe photos as I drove through there many times on my way to visit my grandparents up in Shelby Co.

I swear i need to start a Matt Day club, we all have photography, music, entertainment and woodworking in our background, and common relatives going way back we are discovering….and another interesting thing we all dig B&W Photography, now ain’t that a trip? (Just re-entered the photography realm after a break and stumbled across your channel as a recommendation from YT, glad it happened) Merry Christmas MD !

Man I love Delta 3200, just discovered it in 120 and will probably stick to it for a while, it's gorgeous. Keep it up!

It may not be for everyone, but I think it has it's own place in the 120 world specifically. Love that grain on a larger negative sometimes.

I just shot my first roll ever in 35mm and waiting to see the results. I'll have to try it in 120!

I like the first mound shot (less sky, and the leaves are brighter). I love Delta 3200, but I have also recently tried a couple of rolls of HP5+ (120) shot at 1600 and really liked the results.

Matt I like the intro with the hanging film rolls and how you scan your film in the background. I am just wondering if you ever checked out the old Leica Beoon copy stand. I like it as it is so nice small and my Sl2-S fits perfect on it. I somehow also like the Idea, that I can use my 50mm summicron for shooting and scanning the same roll of film. Kind of a closed circle Would be nice to hear your thoughts…

Instead of saying which one I prefer, I’ll just offer this: A) Focuses the eye more on the foreground elements and the mound acts more of a stopping place for the eye. B) More balanced overall, but the foreground is more of a guide to lead the eye to the mound and then the trees and sky.
@mattdayphoto3 жыл бұрын
Love that! Can totally see that.

I prefer photograph A over photograph B. I think there's more dynamic range in A and I don't like how dark B looks by comparison. If I wanted more contrast or shadows, I'd just add that in post anyway.

I would absolutely love to make a series of landscape pictures here and lean into the history here, but I just don't know if I feel comfortable doing something like that. While I would be trying to educate people and inform them on the history there, I fear it might be insensitive to indigenous people for a white man to tell that story. I don't really know to be honest, this is something I struggle with and go back and forth with. I think it all comes down to how it's done. Something I'm going to continue to keep in mind and think about.
