Happy to hear you navigated the situation unscathed. I'm a firm believer in listening to that gut feeling and acting accordingly. I also like easy deals, I find most people who are "real buyers" give things a good look over but don't take forever to make a decision, so that's a huge red flag. I think I would have walked after 10 minutes, saying "dude take it or leave it". I also like to do deals in the daylight, in a public place with lots of people like in front of a grocery store, courthouse or police station lobby etc. Depending on the situation, I would usually resist going to some persons house or having some random I don't know come to mine. 98% of the people are awesome, but that 2% can really mess up your day. I've met so many cool people doing Craigslist deals, that's one of the grand benefits.

I do have a visible Buck knife on my belt, so far that has worked as a deterrent, but I have a backup plan just in case. It’s a whole lot easier for the bad guys to walk in to Best Buy, and walk out with whatever they want anyway.

Once a guy in a oil-stained workshirt with a auto repair shop logo came down the street and asked me if he could use my phone. He said his car broke down on the highway, and he forgot his phone at work, and he needed to call his girlfriend to come pick him up. He *seemed* legit. I had been in auto repair and he looked like a repair dude. I handed him my phone, and he suddenly turned around and started running. However, I ran faster and got in front of him. He then meekly handed me my phone back, then he just walked off - looking for a slower victim probably.

Good for you man. I had some hip hop kid fall on me in a bus pretending to have a seizure, he then got up and tried getting off the bus. I noticed my phone was gone from my pocket, shouted 'you stole my phone', and drop kicked him out the bus onto the pavement. He had 3 other phones in his pocket, so I took all of them and gave them in to police later. He tried accusing me of assault, but the good folks on the bus told him to get lost, and we drove off. It's good to be bold.

Glad you are okay. Your first mistake, which you know, was to deliver it to them. Then they have the upper BATNA in negotiation. I’m surprised within 10’minutes you didn’t stay “we’re done here”. Btw, if you ever have a buyer come by and try to knock down the price too much, just say “we’re done here”’and walk away.

The only way they could be sketchier is if they told you to take the booster. I used to buy stuff from craigslist before it turned to garbage, but selling stuff is much more annoying and not worth it. For expensive things I would just trade to friends and family not let some stranger put you through the wringer.

I think the ruse was; there was never no apartment or second person. Probably didn't even live there. Once you denied the scooter outside, it ruined his plan, and he didn't know how to con his way out of it. Also, I never let anyone use my phone ever. I got burned by that before, and the person called a number which they added to their contacts, and then endless phishing and also using my number to try to access two factor auth.... Also, you are allowing them to use your phone as a burner.

It reminds me a childhood story where i give away a bicycle (they threatened me) to a 2 gypsy's (almost my years) and they gone. My neighbour (he was a little bit younger than my father) was strongly speaking with them and then i returned it back (at another location, lol). All ways good to be reminded of this old scam. Happened to a guy I know who got buttered up by a tourist when showing him his gold ring. A family heirloom. Dude asked to try it on and the bone head let him. So the dude did a runner with it. The real crime is that when he told me about it he expected sympathy. Idiot! Recently heard about another dude who almost got his scooter robbed and then ended giving it away anyway. Idiot!

Never travel to sell something. If you do, you give the buyer leverage because you put skin in the game. Always have them come to you, but don't give them your home or work address. Meet them at a public place near your house where there are surveillance cameras.

I switched from Fuji to Nikon earlier this year when the Z8 came out. Now have a Z6ii and thinking of getting the Z30 as a B roll camera. Footage looks amazing. Sales can be weird. I wanted a Hasselblad V-series in 2005. So I find one with the usual 80/2.8 lens, call the number and this old guy answers. The first thing I say is, "I'd like to buy your 500C." He gets nervous, like maybe he's not asking enough, so he says he will have to check "something" and call back. In the meantime I find this 500C/M, same price, but a better model with a removable ground glass. So he calls me back and I told him I found another one. He starts accusing me of breaking our deal. I just asked him, "What was the very first thing I said to you?" He could've left me waiting for hours with his checking.

The secret Nikon settings look like a landscape mode. The backround and sky looks good. The face, however, is too saturated and the highligts clip on the nose and cheeks, which is weird.
